What's included / not included in the price of a cruise?

At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines we do our utmost to ensure our cruise holidays are not just hugely enjoyable, but great value too. The benefits included in each cruise package are listed below and, as you'll see, there's a lot - so you can just relax and get on with having a good time!       What's included: Comfortable rooms and suites with tv, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and individually controlled air conditioning. Tempting cuisine every day throughout your cruise - with five course à la carte dinners, casual breakfast and lunch buffets and late-night snacks. All evening entertainment, including cabaret shows, live music and dancing. Captain's Drinks Party and Gala Buffet (Gala Buffet not available on cruises of four nights or less). What restrictions should I expect with shore tour options if I'm in a wheelchair?

Unless able to board and alight a vehicle unassisted, it is not usually possible for wheelchair users to participate in organised shore tours. To discuss independent tours with adapted vehicles, please contact our Destination Experience department on 01473 746 163, or via email shore.tours@fredolsen.co.uk. Our Destination Experience team are available 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. For health and safety reasons, it is also not possible to bring any guests ashore via a tender service if confined to a wheelchair. Equally, it is only possible to accomodate collapsible wheelchairs on a tender if the user needs the minimum of assistance to board and alight the vessel. This will be at the discretion of our security staff on the day.

Do you charge a single supplement?

For cruise guests travelling on their own, we offer a number of single occupancy rooms on each of our cruise ships. Alternatively (or if the single rooms are sold out) solo guests can occupy a twin room. All of our twin rooms have a single supplement charge. On occasion, we have some great offers on 'Twin Rooms for sole occupancy', so please call Reservations on 01473 742 424 to discuss options available and for more information about applicable supplement charges. What do I pack for a cruise?

We hope you find the above video useful when planning what to pack for your cruise. How do I make a complaint?

What's included in the Suite Dreams package?

Our Suite Dreams package comes with our compliments on selected Suite grades*. On arrival, you’ll be welcomed with a bottle of sparkling wine and a fresh fruit bowl – which will be topped-up anytime during your cruise at your request. Do your cruises accommodate children?

Children of 6 months and over are very welcome on our ships. On peak-time holiday cruises, our Little Skippers Club keeps kids between 5 and 11 years old entertained with a variety of fun activities. They will enjoy arts and crafts, discos, treasure hunts and loads more, all run by our friendly team of hosts and hostesses*. A list of the day's events are included in the Little Skippers Club's mini-version of the Daily Times, which also shows the separate pool times for kids. Activities also stretch across the evenings, to suit the individual needs of families on board. Please note: our Little Skippers Club also welcomes children under 5, however parents must provide supervision at all times. The club operates subject to minimum numbers being achieved.    For those guests who are travelling overseas with children under the age of 16 for whom you are not the parent or legal guardian, it is a legal requirement that you obtain the written consent of the parent/ legal guardian and produce this upon request when checking in at the port/airport. Failure to produce this documentation may result in refusal of passage. Unfortunately, we regret we are unable to accept infants less than six months of age. We regret that we are not able to offer a babysitting service during your cruise holiday. Can I bring a guide dog/assistance dog on board?

Guide dogs (assistance dogs) are warmly welcomed on board all our cruise ships.  In order to offer an enjoyable and safe cruise experience for both you and your dog, we kindly request you complete the ‘Assistance Dog Travel Application Form’. This can be obtained by contacting the Guest Services Department on 0800 0355 145 or via e-mailing guest.services@fredolsen.co.uk. The following items must be included in the application*: Pet Passport - We require a copy of all pages, including your pet's microchip number and confirmed rabies vaccination, which must be administered at least 21 days prior to travel, and valid for the duration of the cruise. Training Certificate - a copy of the training certificate from ADI (Assistance Dogs International) or IGDF (International Guide Dog Federation). Tapeworm Treatment Appointment - confirmation of a pre-booked overseas veterinary appointment for tapeworm treatment. This is a mandatory requirement between 24-120 hours prior to return to the UK. We strongly advise you book this appointment for the penultimate port of call (if within the mandatory time period) to avoid any issues should the final port of call be missed for any unforeseeable reason. Exceptions include sailings direct from Ireland, Finland, Norway or Malta. Please note: other EU countries also have tapeworm compliance requirements if you are not travelling to that country directly from the UK (i.e. the ship makes a call in another country first). *If for any reason, after submitting the application, your request is denied by the Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA), you are entitled to cancel your booking free of charge. Please be aware that it can take time to process applications with APHA, so please submit your request at the earliest possible opportunity to avoid disappointment.  Terms & conditions apply.  

Do you provide shuttle buses in ports where it is not possible to walk to the town centre?

When your ship is berthed some distance from the centre of your destination, a convenient shuttle bus service is often provided to save you money on taxi fares. All day tickets (for which a small charge applies) can be bought from Guest Services. However, for those guests who are booked on a Freedom Fare offer, this charge is included. Shuttle buses do not operate in ports where it is easier/more economical for guests to use independent transport, or when we are prohibited from running a service, e.g. the Caribbean.

Are bicycles allowed on board?

We are only able to accept folding bicycles on board for use ashore only. Your folding bicycle must be stored in your cabin at all times and is not permitted on board tender boats.  Please call Guest Services on 0800 0355 145 or e-mail guest.services@fredolsen.co.uk if you wish to add a folding bicycle to your booking. Our Guest Services team are available 8:30 to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 5pm on Saturday.

How do I enquire about lost property or luggage?

Lost property: If you are unfortunate enough to discover that you've lost an item of personal property during your cruise, you may be able to trace it by contacting our Customer Relations Department on 01473 292 303, or by e-mail at customer.relations@fredolsen.co.uk. Our Customer Relations team are available 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. If your property is discovered on board after your cruise, the item(s) will be returned to our office in Ipswich, and will remain there for one month while waiting to be claimed. If unclaimed, we reserve the right to dispose of these items to approved charities. Please note: for reasons of hygiene and storage capacity, we can only process items of intrinsic value. A nominal figure of £30 is charged to return most items, subject to value and size. If you lose an item on the ship during your cruise, please contact Guest Services on board. Lost Baggage: If you return home and discover that you've not collected all your luggage following disembarkation, please contact our Customer Relations Department on 01473 292 303 or e-mail customer.relations@fredolsen.co.uk Please note: it is the responsibility of the property owner to cover the cost of carriage. Should you have taken another guest’s luggage in error, you will also be responsible for the cost of carriage involved in returning it to the rightful owner. Please check carefully that you have collected the correct luggage, before leaving the luggage reclaim area and continuing your journey home.

Can I go ashore independently?

Exploration is a big part of your cruise holiday with Fred. Olsen, so we encourage you to go shoreside whether independently or on a tour. We will advise guests of any destinations that cannot be explored independently, such as St. Petersburg, where you need to be in possession of the relevant visas. Your cruise fare is fully inclusive of port taxes and charges, so as soon as the ship is cleared by customs and immigration, you are free to get on and off the ship as many times as you wish. When the ship is berthed some distance from the centre, a convenient shuttle bus service is often provided to save you money on taxi fares. All key information will be communicated to guests prior to arrival in the port via The Daily Times and announcements over the ships tannoy. Guests will also receive a printed 'Destination Guide' highlighting key attractions and top tips for each port of call on your cruise. While exploring destinations on your own allows you to discover local cultures for yourself, we do recommend you consider our organised shore tours, specifically designed for you to see the very best that port has to offer. Our Shore Tours Department will be delighted to discuss any queries you may have, and can be contacted on 01473 292 444 (option 2). Our Tours team are available 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Please note: The ship cannot wait for the late return of any independent tours/transport you may be on.

Are there any visa requirements I need to be aware of?

Visa and health requirements can change at any time. It is your own responsibility to ensure that you check with a professionally qualified source and comply with such requirements. UK passport holders will need visas for certain Fred. Olsen cruise holidays and will advised at the time of booking. Your cruise booking information will also detail any requirements applicable to your holiday. It is the responsibility of all non-British passport holders to ensure that they are in possession of a valid passport and, where necessary, entry visas or permits for their chosen cruise. If you are unsure as to whether you are requires to obtain such documents, you must contact the relevant Embassy or Consulate. Failure to comply with this request may result in refusal of carriage, or the imposition of individual fines by local immigration authorities. CIBT Visas, Fred. Olsen’s recommended visa provider, offer Fred. Olsen Cruises guests specially discounted prices for visa applications for your cruise holiday. Do I need a passport to go on a cruise?

Absolutely. It is a condition of carriage that all guests embarking on a cruise holiday, even those visiting the British Isles, must hold a full and valid passport that conforms to the entry requirements of each destination visited, and is valid for at least 6 months after the date of return to the UK. It is your responsibility to ensure you hold a valid passport. If you need to renew your passport, please allow at least one month for your application to be processed - and more time during peak holiday periods. As you will be denied boarding if unable to present your passport at check-in, please ensure your passport is kept in your hand luggage.

What's the difference between Freedom and Saver fares?

Freedom Fares Freedom Fares are designed so that our guests can benefit from the best choice of rooms and relax knowing their holiday is planned out. I'm travelling alone, how will I get to meet people?

Our single guests feel right at home on board our ships; Fred. Olsen have the reputation of sailing the friendliest fleet afloat.  The size of our ships makes it perfect for making new friends and we’ll have our smiling staff waiting to greet you from the moment you arrive on board. However, we want our solo cruisers to feel they can have the freedom to do as much or as little as they like – aboard or ashore.  Once on board, check your Daily Times to see when the solo travellers meeting is, so you can get to know your fellow cruisers. How long will we be docked in each port of call?

Details of your itinerary will be available on the relevant cruise page, detailing early/late am/pm for each port of call. Precise timings for your stay in port vary from place to place, and from sailing to sailing. Arrival and departure times can change as your cruise progresses, so we display them as approximate periods rather than exact times. The below is a rough guide to these approximate timings, which are always subject to change. What's the weather like in the Norwegian Fjords?

The ideal time to visit the stunning Norwegian Fjords is during the summer months, when temperatures can easily reach a pleasant 25 degrees; however, the climate in this part of Norway can change very quickly, so we would recommend packing your suitcase with light layers of clothing, as well as a waterproof jacket. Other suggested additions to your suitcase would be a hat and gloves, sensible walking shoes if you plan on venturing further ashore, and sunglasses to avoid squinting when admiring the mountains and waterfalls around you.  Visiting the Norwegian Fjords in the summer months also affords guests the opportunity to experience the Midnight Sun, with almost 24hrs of daylight - a most surreal but exhilarating phenomenon. Do your ships have rooms adapted for wheelchair users?

All four of our cruise ships feature rooms specially adapted for wheelchair use. Should you wish to bring a wheelchair/scooter on board, please advise us in advance, so that a space can be allocated on board. We also request that a Mobility Questionnaire is fully completed. All wheelchairs/scooters must be stored by yourselves in your room. As a first time cruiser, what can I expect?

We’re sure that embarking on your first Fred. Olsen cruise will an exciting and enjoyable experience, however, if you feel apprehensive or unsure about trying something new, we’ll do all we can to put your mind at ease and help you settle in as quickly as possible. Our ‘New to Cruising’ programme has been created to provide you with all the information you might need during your first cruise on board our ships. The programme includes get-togethers with other first-time cruisers and meetings with our ‘New to Cruising’ representatives. There’s no need to worry about anything when you cruise with Fred. Olsen. Guided ship tours: As you’ll be new to Fred. Olsen and our ships, we recommend you take the opportunity to join a guided ship tour to familiarise yourself with your new ‘home from home at sea’. Our friendly staff will help you find the restaurants, bars, lounges, outside deck spaces and much more; and are happy to answer any questions you have along the way. ‘New to cruising’ get together: The ‘New to Cruising’ get-together is a great way of meeting fellow first-time cruisers who may have the same questions and queries as you, or people looking for new friends and companions to enjoy their holiday with. We’ll also be there to offer some tips on how to make the most of your cruise. ‘New to cruising’ representative: Our ‘New to Cruising’ representatives will be on hand every day throughout your holiday, whether you’re enjoying a week sailing around the UK or venturing further afield on a longer voyage. Do we have to go through immigration at each port on our cruise?

No, you are not required to pass through Immigration at every port of call on your cruise, as you will have already supplied us with your passport details on your Guest Information Form. Immigration officers board the ship when it docks and carry out the necessary checks from the ship’s manifest; guests are not required for this process. How much luggage can I take on board?

Our cruises from UK ports offer a generous 200lbs (90kgs) of luggage. On fly-cruises, however, your allowance will be subject to the conditions imposed by the air carrier and will vary from airline to airline.  Full details of your luggage allowance will be provided on your booking confirmation and your flight tickets. What currencies will I need to take on my cruise?

The currency you need during your cruise will depend on the destinations on your itinerary. The on board currency for cash payments is Sterling. Fred. Will my cruise be affected by Brexit?

We’re confident that Brexit won’t affect your Fred. Olsen cruise, but should the cruise be cancelled due to the UK leaving the EU, we will give you a full refund and a free cruise. What’s more, once a cruise has been booked and the deposit paid, Fred.
