Borealis

Borealis at sea
Borealis at sea

Bearing a name that previously bestowed an Olsen-owned vessel in the 1940s, and inspires thoughts of the Aurora Borealis, elegant Borealis proudly connects with, and represents, our founding family’s history and Norwegian heritage. Stylish, spacious and comfortable, with capacity for fewer than 1,400 guests, she’s in keeping with our commitment to offering a more traditional style of cruising. [ReadMoreMob]

But while Borealis’ capacity is smaller than many cruise vessels, she’s still one of the largest ships, [ReadMoreDesk]by size, in our fleet. On board Borealis you’ll find you’re never overcrowded. There is always ample room in which to indulge yourself in the stylish dining venues, enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple and fantastic entertainment at the bars, lounges and theatres, and while away the hours by the all-season pool. And of course, with our friendly staff providing our typical level of personal, attentive service, there’s an intimate feel to the on board experience too.

Oriental Tea Room

The Oriental Tea Room is our most elegant lounge.

Here everything has been designed with quiet beauty and gentle elegance in mind. The colours are pale and powder-soft, the light is clear and calm, the furnishings are inspired by Chinese silks and rare orchids.

During the day, we serve a refreshing menu of unusual loose-leaf teas from the East and on some afternoons we offer either a delicious afternoon tea together with petit fours and finger sandwiches, or a tea-tasting experience where you can find out about each tea’s story and origin.

In the evenings, join us for a relaxing drink with tea-inspired cocktails like a Mint Julep or Lime & Mint Mar-tea-ni, canapés from Colours and Tastes restaurant and a selection of cold beers including specialities from Japan, Singapore and Thailand.

With panoramic windows, this is also the perfect spot for scenic cruising when the weather is not being kind.

Aurora & Borealis Restaurants

Our elegant two-tiered main restaurants are at the heart of a Fred. Olsen dining experience.

Every evening, you can enjoy a delicious five-course, a la carte menu, created, freshly prepared and cooked by our team of chefs and you will be taken care of by our wonderful waiters at your own table. The menu is changed daily and the elegant dishes include steaks, seafood, freshly made soups, pasta and salads plus a selection of beautiful homemade breads, made overnight in our on board bakery.

When you cruise on board our new ship Borealis, you can choose flexible dining which allows you to dine at any time in the evening or, your table will be allocated to you at the same time each evening for the duration of your cruise.

Colours & Tastes

Colours and Tastes restaurant offers modern Asian Fusion dishes which are a real talking point and food that tastes best when shared. The décor is colourful, the mood cheerful and the food offers a stimulating set of new taste experiences.

Our specialist chefs will create a selection of dishes to share at your table including spiced grilled meats, seafood, gyozas, dim sum and sushi, as well as the classic Chinese and Thai favourites.

Colours and Tastes restaurant is available for dinner in the evenings and bookable in advance.

You can reserve an individual table or, to get a real flavour of Asia, why not join others at our long communal table where you can enjoy your meal with the best of company or “I det beste selskap” as we like to say in our native Norwegian.

Vasco

Vasco (named after the famous explorer Vasco Da Gama who was the first European to reach India by sea) offers a fresh and modern take on Indian food.

The menu has been inspired by our chefs from Goa and focuses on the unique culinary traditions of that area - a place where the tastes of Europe first met the tropical warmth and spices of western India.

Here you can enjoy delicious sea-food, spiced curries and grilled meats, all cooked fresh and to authentic recipes by our Goan chefs.

The bright colours and feel of the restaurant have also been inspired by the warmth and richness of the Goan tradition.

Vasco is a speciality restaurant located near The View on deck 8, midship, and is bookable in advance with our Maître D or Guest Services.

The View

The View restaurant is a wonderful treat created to be just right for the relaxing feel you often want from days away and at sea. It is designed to be easy-going: light, open, with beautiful views of the ocean; no formal dress-codes; no set tables; no standing on ceremony.

Instead, delicious breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and dinners are laid out as the most generous buffet and served to you by our crew. You can come and go as you please and eat whatever takes your fancy. And, when you are feeling peckish in the late evenings, you’ll find The View is open for a delicious late night buffet and bedtime snacks.

The View Restaurant on Borealis

On a cruise holiday, we know that your on board experience is just as important to you as the time you spend ashore. That's why we are dedicated to ensuring our entertainment programme is packed with activities and memorable performances that help to create inspirational days and unforgettable nights.

You'll find that there's plenty to keep you entertained during the day on board Borealis, whether you prefer to while away the hours relaxing or engaging your body and mind. The ship's facilities include The Oasis swimming pool, two jacuzzis and an impressive spa with a Thermal Spa, Aroma Room, Hydro Pool, two saunas and nine treatment rooms, while there are sports courts and an Auditorium – which hosts fantastic cookery classes and demonstrations – too.

When the lights go down and you settle into your evening, we'll treat you to a selection of live shows ranging from music and cabaret to quick-fire stand-up comedy, all enjoyed in the space and comfort of our stylish lounges and theatres. And, of course, throughout the ship you can sit, relax and enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple accompanied by the gentle sounds of live acoustic music.
