Borealis

Borealis at sea
Borealis at sea

Thanks to her ability to cruise at higher speeds than other ships, Borealis – sister ship of our flagship Bolette – is perfectly suited for sailing our longer voyages across the globe. Cruising faster means she can include more stops, scenic discoveries and highlights into each itinerary.

Stylish, spacious and comfortable, with a choice of elegant public areas, restaurants and just 690 cabins, she is ideal for Fred. Olsen's style of cruising.[ReadMoreMob] On board Borealis you’ll find you’re never overcrowded. There is always ample room in which to indulge yourself in the stylish dining venues, enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple and fantastic entertainment at the bars, lounges and theatres, and while away the hours by the all-season pool. Borealis fits perfectly into our small ship fleet and, like all our vessels, has her own elegant design touches. Even the pattern and weave of the British-made carpets were hand-chosen by Fred. Olsen Jnr, with attention to the finer details every step of the way.

Dining in our elegant restaurants and dining venues is a high point of every Fred. Olsen cruise. There are deliciously-tempting dishes – expertly crafted by our chefs – on offer throughout the day, presented with the personal touch of Fred. Olsen's famous on board service.

Aurora & Borealis Restaurants

Our elegant two-tiered main restaurants are at the heart of a Fred. Olsen dining experience.

Every evening, you can enjoy a delicious five-course, á la carte menu, created, freshly prepared and cooked by our team of chefs and you will be taken care of by our wonderful waiters at your own table. The menu is changed daily and the elegant dishes include steaks, seafood, freshly made soups, pasta and salads plus a selection of beautiful homemade breads, made overnight in our on board bakery.

When you cruise on board our new ship Borealis, you can choose flexible dining which allows you to dine at any time in the evening or, your table will be allocated to you at the same time each evening for the duration of your cruise.

An alternative option for guests who prefer a more intimate experience, the Indian Ocean Room offers the same five-course á la carte dining as the main, two-tiered restaurants, but in a smaller, Indian Ocean-themed venue.

Cosy, yet spacious and comfortable, and benefiting from large picture windows, this is the perfect venue for indulging a sumptuous dinner, as well as delicious breakfasts and lunches, whilst enjoying the company of your loved ones, friends and just a few of your fellow guests.

The View restaurant, Borealis' buffet-dining venue, is a wonderful treat created to be just right for the relaxing feel you often want from days away and at sea. It is designed to be easy-going, with its light and open feel, beautiful views of the ocean, no formal dress-codes and no set tables.

Delicious breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and dinners are laid out as the most generous buffet and served to you by our crew. You can come and go as you please and eat whatever takes your fancy. And, when you are feeling peckish in the late evenings, you’ll find The View is open for a delicious late night buffet and bedtime snacks.

The Poolside Café, situated close to the swimming pool and Jacuzzis on Lido Deck 8, provides you with a relaxed, al fresco dining experience to enjoy during your days on board.

You’ll find there are plenty of delicious, tempting dishes on offer; perhaps tuck into a perfectly cooked burger or fish and chips, or something a light such as a Caesar salad or a ploughman’s plate.

Colours and Tastes restaurant offers modern Asian Fusion dishes which are a real talking point on board Borealis

Book a table and experience a real flavour of Asia in our colourful yet intimate restaurant, where the mood is cheerful, and the food offers a stimulating set of new taste experiences.

Our talented chefs offer classic dishes and unique delicacies from Japanese, Thai, Chinese and Fillipino cuisines, including spiced grilled meats, seafood, dim sum and sushi.

Delicious food, prepared with the finest ingredients, and our knowledgeable waiting team, all help to create wonderful memories that will leave you surprised, delighted and coming back again!

Our Colours & Tastes restaurant is available for dinner in the evenings and is bookable in advance using our Pre-book button or with any of our Seating Hostesses or Guest Services once on board. There is a £5pp additional supplement for this dining option which will be added to your cabin account.

Vasco (named after the famous explorer Vasco Da Gama who was the first European to reach India by sea) offers a fresh and modern take on Indian food.

The menu has been inspired by our chefs from Goa and focuses on the unique culinary traditions of that area - a place where the tastes of Europe first met the tropical warmth and spices of western India.

Here you can enjoy delicious sea-food, spiced curries and grilled meats, all cooked fresh and to authentic recipes by our Goan chefs.

The bright colours and feel of the restaurant have also been inspired by the warmth and richness of the Goan tradition.

Our Vasco restaurant is located near The View on deck 8, midship, and is available for dinner in the evenings. This dining option is bookable in advance using our Pre-book button or with our Maître D or Guest Services once on board.

Each day complimentary afternoon tea is served, with sandwiches, scones and cakes, along with fresh tea and coffee, always a popular choice.

During sea days guests can book a very select experience: Traditional Premium Afternoon Tea*. Enjoy beautiful views from the stylish The Observatory Lounge, with musical accompaniment from our on board pianist and the careful attention of white-gloved waiters.

Your choice from a selection of premium teas by Taylors of Harrogate is served in porcelain teapots, along with elegant finger sandwiches, pastries and warm scones with jam and clotted cream. Such civilised indulgence – and all for only £9.95 per person*.
*Chargeable to your on board account.

All rooms and Suites have tea and coffee making facilities as standard, so you can enjoy a pick-me-up first thing, and a relaxing drink at the end of the day. For those times when you’d like something more while you’re in your home-from-home at sea you can also order room service up until 11pm every day.

Continental breakfast can be ordered in advance for delivery at your preferred time, while snacks are available from 10am onwards. Should you prefer not to head to the restaurants, short lunch and dinner menus are also available. Whatever the time of day, you’ll never be hungry on a Fred. Olsen cruise.

Would you like to know more about...

With fewer people on board our smaller, more intimate fleet, it's easy to find live entertainment to enjoy, a bar stool to perch on as you chat with new-found friends or a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink and a good book.

The Observatory

(Sports Deck 9, forward). The tranquil atmosphere and elegance of The Observatory makes it the perfect venue for pre-dinner cocktails and evening drinks, accompanied by our resident Pianist. With panoramic windows, this is also the perfect spot for scenic cruising when the weather is not being kind.

Situated on Lounge Deck 5, midship, the Bookmark Café is the perfect spot to relax and and enjoy your choice of speciality coffee or tea. Perhaps an Earl Grey or delicious latte in the morning, or a luxury hot chocolate with all the trimmings after a busy day ashore; accompanied by a mouth-watering selection of handmade chocolates and freshly baked cakes and treats.

To make your coffee or tea selection for your cruise even easier, pre-book your Bookmark Bestseller card, and it will be added to your cabin account when you  arrive on board, all ready for use immediately. With 7 hot drinks for you to enjoy, and  a bag of milk or mixed truffles too, why not treat someone special and arrange a Bookmark Bestseller card for their cruise?

(Lounge Deck 5, midship). Named after a four masted ship which the Olsen family bought back in 1892, this space has been designed to make you feel comfortable and relaxed while you enjoy your cruise. You will find live music and an extensive range of drinks and cocktails.

(Lounge Deck 5, forward). The inviting, spacious and sociable Ocean Bar is situated close to the Neptune Balcony on Lounge Deck 5, and so is the perfect place in which to enjoy a drink or two before taking in the evening show.

It is a great post-show venue too; the Ocean Bar really comes to life in late evening when the resident band or DJ provides the music, and invites you to the floor to dance into night.

(Lounge Deck 5, midship). During a cruise, and especially during time at sea, there are not many better ways to relax and enjoy your time on board than to simply sit back and listen to the restful sounds of music played by a talented pianist.

At the Piano Bar, you can do exactly that. Perhaps take a seat before dinner and settle into your evening with a cocktail, or visit this stylish, spacious venue after the evening show to wind down.

(Lounge Deck 5, midship). Elegant and opulent, with its exotic décor and stylish furnishings, and offering a menu of finest quality teas and herbal infusions, The Oriental Tea Room provides guests with an authentic Far Eastern experience.

Enjoy a selection of oolong, black, green and white teas from China, Japan and Taiwan, as well as a few favourite blends from back home, such as Earl Grey and English Chamomile. Or for something cold and refreshing, the choice of tea cocktails and delicious bottled beer, including Tiger and Tsingtao, are sure to tempt too.
