Be immersed in the remarkable history, rich cultures and breathtaking beauty of the Black Sea, as visits to five stunning cities in five different countries affords chances to discover world-famous landmarks, taste authentic flavours, seek-out areas of exceptional scenic beauty, and much more.

In unmistakable Istanbul, step back to the days of Ottoman rule at the glittering Topkapi Palace and fascinating Hagia Sofia; marvel at the mighty Blue Mosque; sample traditional Turkish delight and sweet Baklava; and experience the hustle and bustle of the Grand Bazaar.[ReadMoreMob] A tour from Sochi offers a visit to a Russian tea plantation on tour, to taste the local brew and see how locals harvest it, while some of Georgia’s most spectacular subtropical gardens, national parks and wine valleys await discovery from Batumi. [ReadMoreDesk]In the Ukraine, revel in Odessa’s melting pot of western European-influenced architecture, culture and art, and perhaps explore the city’s underground network of labyrinth-like, 17th century Catacombs. For a magical end to your Black Sea discovery, opt for a boat tour of Romania’s Danube Delta, a bird haven of peaceful marshlands and waterways, from Constanta.

If that wasn’t enough, you’ll get to experience the best of the Mediterranean on this incredible 28-night adventure too. Visit Gibraltar and enjoy grandstand views from the top of the ‘rock’; and sail into the magnificent Grand Harbour of Valletta, the 16th century walled capital of Malta and a treasure trove of Baroque architectural gems. Ancient Greek wonders also will reveal themselves; Piraeus is your starting point for exploring engrossing Athens, home of legendary ruins and temples such as the 2,500-year-old Parthenon and Agias Apostoli, while Olympia – the home of the Olympic Games – is within reach of Katakolon. Cities on Spanish shores will delight too. There’s time in the sun-kissed Menorcan city of Mahon and Cádiz, with its gorgeous coastline, ancient sites and traditional tapas bars. What’s more, to complement your time ashore to explore, Balmoral will also guide you through narrow straits and passages, including the Darnanelles and Bosphorus, for hours of unforgettable scenic cruising too.

Balmoral, carrying up to 1,350 guests is small enough to navigate narrow waterways such as Kiel Canal and bring inspirational sights and experiences closer to you.

Like the rest of the fleet, Balmoral retains a warm, welcoming atmosphere and features comfortable accommodation and lounges, stylish restaurants and plenty of open-deck space.

In recent years, we have seen a new era emerging in cruising.

There is a trend for everything to get bigger and busier, and for a cruise to be seen as an alternative to a large luxury resort, with a limitless flurry of activity. But this is not for us. Find out more

1. WE ARE PROUD TO SAIL OUR OWN COURSE

We are free to do things a different way because we are family-run. Of course some people enjoy the bigger, busier cruises, but it is not for everyone, and it is not for us. We prefer to do things, 'The Olsen Way'.

2. SMALLER IS BETTER

We have fewer guests, so the atmosphere on board our ships is always warm and civilised. Our smaller ships allow us to visit the more interesting places that the world has to offer.

3. HAND-CRAFTED, NOT MASS PRODUCED

We pride ourselves on putting our all into the Fred. Olsen cruise experience. Our itineraries are created from scratch every year, our service is genuinely personal and each and every area of our ships is designed by hand.
