Looking back to our 2023 Fleet in Funchal

Guests enjoyed a day of entertainment and celebrations, including live performances, the Battle of the Bartenders and the ever-popular tug of war between our crews. It was also a chance to meet fellow guests and enjoy a special celebration dinner on board.
The celebrations concluded with Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral sailing from Funchal together beneath a fireworks display.
A few moments from the day
Frequently asked questions
When is the Fleet Fiesta 2026?
Our fleet meets in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria on 1st December 2026. All three ships arrive during the morning and sail out together that evening, so you have the full day in port.
Where does it take place?
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on the north-east coast of the island. The celebrations centre on the quayside where our ships are berthed, and the city itself is a short walk away – the old town of Vegueta in one direction, the long stretch of Las Canteras beach in the other.
Which ships are taking part?
Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral – the whole Fred. Olsen fleet will be in one harbour, on one day.
Can I visit the other two ships?
Yes. Guests are welcome aboard our other ships during the day, which is one of the things people enjoyed most in Funchal. We'll confirm timings and how to arrange your visit once you're on board.
Is there an extra charge to take part?
No. The Fleet Fiesta is part of your cruise. Shore excursions in Las Palmas are bookable separately, as they are in any port.
Which sailing should I choose?
Can I join without flying?
Yes. Bolette sails from Liverpool and Borealis from Southampton, both returning to the UK. There's no flying involved on either.
What happened at the Fleet in Funchal in 2023?
On 9th November 2023, all three ships docked together in Madeira. The day ran from quayside entertainment and crew competitions through to a celebration dinner, and finished with the fleet sailing out together under fireworks. Take a look at the short film and gallery further up this page.
Will there be shore excursions in Las Palmas?
Yes. A choice of excursions will be available to book, and details will be available in My Cruises up to 13 weeks before your cruise departs.
What's the weather like in Gran Canaria in December?
Warm and settled. Las Palmas averages highs of around 22°C in December, with sea temperatures near 21°C, which is why the Canaries are our most popular winter sun destination.
Is the Fleet Fiesta suitable for solo travellers?
Very much so. All three sailings have solo cabins and our usual solo traveller programme, and a day with three crews and three ships' worth of guests is an easy one to fall into conversation about. You'll find more on our solo traveller cruises page.
