What’s more, we’ve timed your visit to Northern Norway for the chance to spot the elusive Northern Lights while at sea and during an extended stay in Alta. Ashore, there are chances to spend time with local Sámi communities; meet friendly huskies and gain an insight into the tradition of husky sledding; and capture the views from atop Tromsø’s Mount Storsteinen. As well as experiencing the maritime tradition of crossing the Arctic Circle, Balmoral will take a scenic shortcut via the Tjeldsundet Strait, only possible on smaller ships, and sail past the Seven Sisters mountains. You'll be joined on this cruise by experts from Go Stargazing, who will hold informal sessions out on deck to help you discover more about other planets, galaxies and constellations.

Go Stargazing is formed of a group of astronomers, all of whom are keen to encourage public interest in astronomy to as wide an audience as possible. On your cruise, expect to find them out on the top deck in the evenings conducting stargazing sessions.

Having lived in Norway since 2011, David has grown his website into one of the biggest language resources for those visiting or moving to Norway. He will be on hand throughout the cruise delivering a series of talks on all things Norwegian.

Disembarking when your ship's at anchor is a very different experience to when it's docked portside. Getting ashore in this instance often involves the use of the ship's tender, which is accessed via the steps of a secure gangway.
