Borealis

Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights

Our team has crafted this Borealis cruise to Iceland to showcase the country's remarkable volcanic landscapes, geothermal activity, and fascinating culture, while also timing your visit to offer the best chance of seeing some incredible wildlife. Spurting geysers, thundering waterfalls, and seabirds are yours to admire from Reykjavík, while Akureyri is well-placed for visiting the mighty Goðafoss Waterfall or whale-watching. Venturing to Ísafjörður presents an opportunity to discover the way of life in one of Iceland’s most remote regions, where locals will tell you stories of rich folklore.  Meanwhile on board Borealis, you can search for marine life with the help of wildlife charity ORCA, particularly while cruising Eyjafjörður, a haven for cetaceans and birds.

Highlights

Geysirs, Iceland

Explore the land of Fire & Ice

Exploring Iceland in May offers you the perfect opportunity to experience majestically powerful waterfalls thundering down steep cliff faces as the snow continues to melt. With spectacular sunrises and sunsets and long sunlight hours, the countryside will be at its most verdant and lush, and spring flowers will be in full bloom. The raw power of geysirs such as Strokkur will thrill you with their explosive displays of steam and water, and glaciers like Langjokull will shimmer in the sunlight, adding to the otherworldly allure of this captivating island. The magnificent waterfalls of Godafoss, Dynjandi, and Gullfoss cascade in mesmerising torrents, and from Reykjavik, explore the Golden Circle, with visits to Gullfoss Waterfall, Thingvellir National Park, and the Geysir Geothermal Area.

Blue Lagoon, Iceland

Discover Iceland's unique identity

Geographical, historical, and cultural elements all play a significant role in shaping Iceland's identity. Time spent in nature is highly valued and encouraged by participating in outdoor pursuits like hiking, fishing, or unwinding in one of the many pools where geothermal activity produces natural hot springs, often located in settings surrounded by remarkable landscapes, such as the Blue Lagoon or Sky Lagoon, visited from Reykjavik. You will also have the opportunity to go horseback riding through the beautiful Icelandic countryside or spend time with friendly locals who will tell you tales of mythical trolls and elves and their significance in national folklore.

Humpback whale tail

Seek out whales, dolphins & Seabirds

Your cruise to Iceland aboard Borealis has been timed to give you the very best opportunities to witness majestic humpback whales in their natural habitat in Akureyri and in sheltered Eyjafjörður, Iceland’s longest fjord. Here, the blend of warm and cold currents attracts zooplankton and krill, making it possible for you to also see minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, or harbour porpoises from the decks of Borealis. You will be accompanied on this Iceland cruise by representatives from wildlife charity ORCA, who will be on hand to help you spot marine life and soaring seabirds and who will share their fascinating knowledge on how to witness these wonderful creatures.
