Borealis

Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights

Admire Norway’s mountainous landscapes as Borealis takes you along picturesque, narrow waterways such as Lysefjord (only possible on smaller ships) and Nordfjord. We’ve also planned your cruise at a time of year when the waterfalls are becoming their strongest, so you can witness the likes of Langfoss and Kleivafoss in their full glory. As well as chances to encounter the icy glaciers of Briksdal and Nigardsbreen, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to embrace the great outdoors, from hiking in the mountains to fishing on the fjords. You can also experience innovative ways of travelling around the fjordland, including Bergen’s Fløyen Funicular, Nordfjord’s Loen Skylift, and the iconic Flåm Railway.

Highlights

Scenic cruising in Lysefjord, Norway

Mountainous Landscapes of the Fjords

The glacially-carved coastal valleys of Norway showcase the country's outstanding natural beauty, with deep midnight-blue fjords framed by steep mountains on each side. As Borealis glides along these narrow waterways, you'll have plenty of opportunities to see cascading waterfalls and rock formations, and as you step ashore, explore further into lush landscapes and discover icy glaciers. From Haugesund, join us on a tour the magnificent Langfoss waterfall, said to be the best in Norway, as it tumbles hundreds of metres down into the Åkrafjord below; and Skjolden is your gateway to the awe-inspiring Nigardsbreen Glacier. You will also be able to enjoy scenic cruising of Nordfjord, Lustrafjord and Lysefjord, home to the iconic Pulpit Rock.

Embracing Friluftsliv

The Norwegian concept of friluftsliv embraces spending time outdoors and enjoying a simple life in nature without disturbing it. On this Borealis cruise, join us on a tour to discover the icy landscape of the Briksdal Glacier accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide; or try your hand at kayaking on the serene waters of Nordfjord from Olden, surrounded by steep mountain peaks and fjordside villages. Enjoy sampling our made-on-board Aquavit, a distinctively tasting Scandinavian spirit made from caraway and dill, widely enjoyed by Norwegians with friends and family at times of celebration.

Flam railway, Norway

Scaling the Norwegian Fjordland

Your cruise aboard Borealis will offer the opportunity to discover how Norwegians have learned to scale the mountainous terrain of their homeland. From Bergen, board the Floyen Funicular railway for magnificent panoramic views of the fjord below, before enjoying a hike through the forest. You are also perfectly placed here to join a tour on the distinctive green carriages of the Flamsbana Railway for a scenic journey to Myrdal. Said to be one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world, the train journeys high into the mountains and features stunning fjordland scenery. From Loen, a journey on the Skylift to Mount Hoven offers access to pristine hiking trails that showcase Norway's landscapes at its very best.
