Borealis

Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights

Norway’s fjordland scenery awaits on this cruise that’s been designed by our Journey Planners to take in narrow waterways such as Lysefjord, only accessible to smaller ships, and Lustrafjord, which boasts incredible natural beauty with scenes of icy glaciers, steep mountains and charming villages. You can immerse yourself in the Norwegian cultural concept of friluftsliv by connecting with nature during activities such as kayaking and hiking. There’s also the chance to ride the Fløyen Funicular in Bergen, unveiling panoramic city views, and exploring scenic views of Flåm. Both exemplify the diverse ways in which the challenging fjord landscapes are explored.

Highlights

Lysefjord

Discover Mountainous Fjord Landscapes

Discover the dramatic and rugged beauty of Norway’s fjordland on this cruise. Borealis will sail along the narrow Lysefjord, a feat only possible on smaller ships. Flanked by sheer granite cliffs, it is home to the famous Preikestolen, also known as Pulpit Rock, and the iconic Kjeragbolten, a large boulder wedged between two cliffs. We will also sail along the calm waters of Lustrafjord and Hardangerfjord, offering views of towering mountains, cascading waterfalls and quaint villages. Meanwhile, our call into Bergen affords the opportunity to reach the top of Mount Fløyen. Rising to nearly 400m, it offers stunning vistas of Bergen and the surrounding fjords.

Experience Friluftsliv

The Norwegian concept of friluftsliv loosely translates to ‘open-air living’ or ‘outdoor life’ and encompasses the cultural and philosophical appreciation of spending time outdoors whilst engaging with nature. Friluftsliv emphasises activities such as hiking, fishing and other outdoor pursuits throughout all seasons, which promote physical and mental wellbeing, as well as a sense of harmony with the environment. It is deeply rooted in Norwegian culture and is considered an essential part of the country’s identity. Our team have hand-crafted this itinerary to include ports of call which will allow you to experience this concept for yourself, from kayaking on the Hardangerfjord to hiking across the stunning fjordland.
