The cruise at a glance

The Olsen Way Highlights

We have planned this cruise to Norway during summertime, so there’s a better chance of finer weather and more opportunities to enjoy activities within the natural surroundings of the fjords. In Flåm, you could join a boat tour along the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord or ride the Flåm Railway, regarded as one of the best train journeys on Earth. Eidfjord is your gateway to Hardangervidda – the largest mountain plateau in northern Europe – and the Vøringfoss Waterfall, while in Bergen, you can hike atop Mount Fløyen with a local. Several Scenic Discoveries feature too, including Maurangerfjord – courtesy of a special diversion to see the sprawling Fureberg Waterfall, and the picturesque Nordfjord.

Highlights

Nærøyfjord

From Flåm, join us for a scenic cruise tour along Nærøyfjord, where you’ll have the opportunity to take in views of towering mountains and the remarkable landscapes of one of Norway’s most striking fjords. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the mountains surrounding the fjord have many impressive waterfalls cascading down alongside isolated farms and tiny villages. The fjord was of huge importance for transport in the past, as there are no visible roads connecting those areas which are populated.

Viking boat on the coast of the Nereyfjord, near Njardarheimr

Njardarheimr Viking Valley

Located just 20 minutes from Flåm is the Viking village of Njardarheimr – named after the God of trading and sailing, Njord. Known as ‘the place of the Gods’, Njardarheimr shows how villagers lived over 1,000 years ago, as residents live as “real” Vikings, adopting the Viking Age as a lifestyle. A visit here will offer a glimpse into Viking construction, food preparation, crafts and religion and how it affected modern life.

Furebergsfossen Waterfall, Norway

Fureberg Waterfall

Borealis will divert into the size-restricted Maurangerfjord to take guests on a scenic departure from the normal route taken by larger ships to allow you to experience the magnificent Fureberg Waterfall from as close up as possible. The waterfall flows down under the road into the fjord below, following the steep mountain, free falling for around 20 metres. Seeing this impressive sight from your cruise ship gives an idea of its splendour as you spot it at the inner end of the fjord.
