Bolette

Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights

Our team has planned this cruise to explore off-the-beaten track destinations, showcasing the wild and rugged environments of Greenland and Iceland. As Bolette sails the strait of Prins Christiansund, you can witness jagged mountains and glaciers. You’ll also have chances to discover the icebergs of Qooroq Ice Fjord, go whale watching, and sail the scenic fjords of Tasermiut and Tunulliarfik. Learn about Inuit culture, from choir singing and kayaking to kaffemik, the tradition of inviting friends, family and community members to celebrate a special occasion with coffee, tea and cake. Explore Greenland’s history shaped by Scandinavian influence, including the Viking explorer Erik the Red and the Danish-Norwegian missionary and trader Anders Olsen.

Highlights

Ice Fjord Landscapes

As Bolette sails the winding, narrow strait of Prins Christiansund, you can witness jagged mountains and glaciers; discover the ethereal beauty of the Qooroq Ice Fjord as you weave amongst the floating icebergs carved from the glacier in varying shapes and sizes; and cruise through Tasermuit Fjord, flanked by vertical mountainsides that reflect in the waters of the fjord below. Reached from Reykjavík, the mighty Langjökull Glacier, known as the ‘Long Glacier’, is home to the world's largest manmade ice tunnel.

Kayak in Greenland

Greenlandic way of life

Embrace the Greenlandic way of life and immerse yourself in the community activity of Kaffemik when in Qaqortok, enjoying coffee, cake and other local delicacies at a social gathering in a Greenlander's home, where visitors take pleasure in enjoying each other's company. For many years, Greenland was a land of kayakers, essentially used by the Inuits for hunting and fishing. The culture of Qajaq (kayaking) still stands today, more so for recreational reasons. Greenlanders are renowned for their singing, so from Nanortalik, join us and listen to peaceful psalms and merry songs sung by a local choir dressed in national costume.

Seek out regional sights

Your cruise aboard Bolette has been timed for you to experience the waters of Greenland and Iceland between the early season ice flow and the later winter weather where icebergs are more packed together. The fjords surrounding Akureyri are home to a variety of whales, including the majestic humpback, minke and sei whales, who come here to feed in the nutrient-rich waters.
