Captains in Cadiz

On Monday 10th September 2018, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines celebrated an historic coming-together of our fleet of four ocean-going ships – Balmoral, Braemar, Black Watch and Boudicca – in Cádiz, Spain. Marking the 170th anniversary of Fred. Olsen's beginnings in shipping, this momentous occasion – entitled 'Captains in Cádiz' – was only the second time ever that our ships had converged in one place, following on from the 'Four Ships in Bergen' event in 2015. As the fleet arrived in Cádiz, watched with pride by Fred. Olsen Junior, Chairman of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, an unforgettable day of themed entertainment, events and celebration awaited lucky guests on the quayside, on board each ship and throughout the city. The fun-packed programme included a 'Siege of Cádiz' treasure hunt, performances from live bands, the traditional inter-ship tug-of-war competition, and a ceremonial Plaque Exchange on stage, attended by all eight Captains, Fred. Olsen Junior, Mike Rodwell, the Mayor of Cádiz, President of Cádiz Port Authority and other local dignitaries. Guests also had a opportunity to visit all four ships and catch-up with friends and favourite crew members during the day, and many took advantage of the rare chance to take pictures of the fleet docked together in the sunshine. At 5pm, just like that, it was time to depart. With all four ships making a dramatic departure from Cádiz in convoy, seranaded by a local jazz band and led out of the harbour by a fire tug boat spraying its water cannons, guests enjoyed sail-away parties on their ship's sun-bathed open decks as they sailed under the imposing The Constitution of 1812 Bridge, having made memories of this special day that they'll cherish forever.
