The islands visited on this cruise have an overriding sense of community within them, as residents come together throughout their daily lives. You’ll be joined on this cruise by Katie and Anthony Court, who will speak about their way of life in Guernsey, where they enjoy hiking, sea swimming and being active Rotarians within their local community. Take the opportunity to explore nature, cycling or kayaking along the coastlines, or discovering the beautiful Tresco Abbey Gardens with a garden guide; and be sure to sample local ice cream in Guernsey, made from the world famous cow's milk produced here.

Defending Britain’s Shores

Discover more on this Borealis cruise about the impact of hostilities on the Southern islands of Britain, where the Garrison Walls of St. Mary’s hold a rich history spanning over 350 years. Although not directly involved in military action during World War Two, the Isles of Scilly provided a base for anti-submarine operations and naval training, so as to prevent western approaches to Britain. As Honfleur is strategically placed near to the English Channel, the town was under German control until it was liberated shortly after the D-Day landings – you can learn more about this momentous time on a tour to the D-Day Museum in Arromanches.
