Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights

Our journey planners have designed this cruise to offer you an insight into some of the cultures that have existed throughout the region, as well as visits to places noted for their spectacular fortifications and defensive harbours, such as Valletta and Gibraltar. For those guests who are hoping to get closer to nature, in Gibraltar you'll have the chance to enjoy watching birds migrate south or visit the famous Barbary macaques, the only wild monkey population in Europe. Many of them have made their home near the peak of the Rock, where you'll also have panoramic views across the Straits of Gibraltar and across to the town of La Linea de la Concepcion in Spain. Your journey will conclude in Dubrovnik and it's remarkable ancient walled city.

Highlights

Rock of Gibraltar

Explore Dramatic Coastal Scenery

This cruise aboard Borealis has been designed for you to explore the rugged beauty of Gibraltar and the landscape of Valletta behind the iconic Grand Harbour walls. The Rock of Gibraltar is instantly recognisable and is a significant part of the territory's culture and history, containing valuable natural resources and also serving as a natural defence against invaders. From its peak, you will be able to see panoramic views of the African coastline, where the seas of the Atlantic and Mediterranean meet, and the quays, marinas, and bays of the city below. Contrastingly, the ancient fortifications of Malta's Grand Harbour protect a number of treasures, including the Upper Barrakka Gardens, whose garden terrace offers panoramic views of the harbour, with the cities of Birgu, Senglea, and Cospicua as a backdrop, while the garden itself houses a collection of busts, monuments, and plaques.

Experience the local way of life

cruise, you'll discover that Gibraltar's cuisines lean heavily on Spanish, British, Genoese, and Maltese influences, resulting in a perfect blend of Mediterranean and British foods. Although the territory is proudly British, there is a unique local culture and Mediterranean way of life, which you can discover on tour with a guide who will explain some of the similarities and differences between life in the UK and Gibraltar, along with local customs and traditions. With so many rich and colourful traditions that have endured the test of time, the Maltese's pride in their culture is celebrated with fireworks displays, village festas, and delicious food. Other Maltese traditions include the old street game of boċċi, played with wooden balls in various sizes as a neighbourly pursuit and carnivals of brightly coloured costumes and music.
