Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights

Our team has hand-crafted this cruise to Iceland to show you some of its most awe-inspiring nature. Grundarfjörður is your gateway to the Snæfellsjökull National Park, with its glacier, black beaches, bird cliffs and craters, while Reykjavík offers chances to explore volcanic landscapes and geothermal sites. Opportunities to encounter wildlife present themselves at every turn, and as well as your cruise being perfectly timed to give you a chance to spot puffins, particularly in Heimaey; you could choose to go whale-watching from Akureyri and spot marine life from your ship with the help of wildlife charity ORCA. From Tórshavn, you can uncover the Faroe’s landscapes formed by volcanic activity over centuries.

Highlights

Geysirs, Iceland

Explore Volcanic Vistas

Iceland lies above a geological hotspot, making it one of the Earth’s most active volcanic regions and is the world’s only inhabited island with visible tectonic plates and ocean ridges. The volcanic activity here has sculpted dramatic landscapes, creating geothermal hot springs, lava fields and rugged, other-worldly terrain. In Reykjavík, you are perfectly placed to see the ancient lava field of the moorlands of Mosfellsheiði or explore Þingvellir National Park. Situated in a rift formed by the separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, the park is home to visible fissures, cliffs and the Öxarárfoss waterfall. Meanwhile, Akureyri is your gateway to experiencing the beauty of Goðafoss Waterfall and Mývatn Nature Baths.

In Reykjavík, you can relax in the famous, blue-tinted waters of the Blue Lagoon, or head to the rejuvenating Sky Lagoon, which offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and city skyline. From Grundarfjörður, you can try your hand at fishing in Breiðafjörður Bay while Akureyri affords the opportunity to explore the scenic countryside on horseback.

Humpback whale fluking tail

Seek Out Whales & Dolphins

The waters of northern Iceland are prime feeding grounds for cetaceans, as a volcanic fissure in the ocean ground allows heat to filter up from the deep, attracting zooplankton and krill which flourish in the mix of warm and cold currents of sheltered Eyjafjörður, Iceland’s longest fjord. It may be possible for you to spot minke and humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins or harbour porpoises from Borealis’ decks, with the assistance of wildlife charity, ORCA; or join a tour to go whale watching with a Marine Biologist, who will share their knowledge of years of tracking these enigmatic creatures, providing you with a fascinating insight into their lives.
