Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights

This cruise aboard Borealis will take you to some of the most impressive destinations located on the Dalmatian Coast. Explore Croatia's Krka National Park's tumbling waterfalls and Montenegro's Lovćen National Park for wildlife. Borealis will also cruise along the fjord-like Bay of Kotor, where a visit to Lokrum's botanical garden is not to be missed; accessed only by a scenic boat ride, it is home to over 800 species of exotic plants. Immerse yourself in local life by participating in a hands-on cooking session to prepare and sample the traditional Croatian dish peka, or visit an olive farm near Kotor to learn about their olive oil manufacturing process. You can also learn about the Phoenicians' history in Carthage from La Goulette and visit Cartagena's Roman sites with a local archaeologist.

Highlights

Kotor bay, Orjen Mountains

Dramatically Mountainous Scenery

Join us on Borealis' deck as we sail into Montenegro’s outstandingly beautiful Bay of Kotor, surrounded by towering peaks, rocky coastlines, and dotted with waterside towns. Do make time to discover the magnificent Krka Waterfalls and take in the breathtaking Skradinski Buk waterfalls, the seventh, final, and longest waterfall on the Krka River, as it cascades into the river below. Our on board experts will provide commentary on the majestic Orjen Mountains to the west and the Lovćen Mountains to the east, while you'll also be accompanied by Geologist Tony Waltham, who will speak about how the terrain has evolved, especially the limestone regions from Croatia to Montenegro.

Pasticada Croatian dish

The Dalmatia way of life

Life in the Dalmatians has been shaped over hundreds of years by its dynamic history, beautiful landscapes and rich culture, and is frequently influenced by the sea, where fishing is not only a commercial business but also connects the region to its extensive marine past. Fresh seafood, olive oil, and locally grown products are popular, and delectable meals like pasticada and peka highlight the culinary expertise of the region. Traditional folk music, such as Klapa, in which singers harmonise a cappella, conveys stories of Croatian history, which you may wish to discover more of on a tour of a local family's house to spend time with them learning how they make brandy and olive oil using centuries-old methods.
