Explore vast volcanic landscapes
The sand dunes of Maspalomas stretch along the coastline of Gran Canaria, offering a desert-like terrain of shimmering gold which is ideally explored on a camel ride through the protected nature reserve. The lunar-like landscapes and diverse ecosystems of the Caldera de Taburiente National Park were formed by the collapse of a volcanic cone millions of years ago, causing a crater-like depression of rugged peaks, rocks and pines, but explore further and you will also witness lush vegetation and a variety of flora and fauna. Mount Teide in Tenerife and Timanfaya National Park in Lanzarote are further examples of the power of fierce volcanic forces, with their molten rock landscapes.

Life in the Canaries is based upon a perfect combination of traditions and culture. In Tenerife, do enjoy Papas Arrugadas - wrinkly potatoes - with their signature spicy mojo sauce, made from chillies and peppers; while in Arrecife, join us on a tour to a volcanic vineyard to sample the local Malvasía wine, made from the sweet-smelling grape only found in Lanzarote. La Palma is renowned for its skilled lace artisans, so take the opportunity to browse for a piece of Calado Canario (Canarian Lace) featuring intricate threadwork on delicate fabrics such as linen, which involves pulling and weaving threads for patterns.

Gran Canaria has been designated as a UNESCO Starlight Tourist destination, due to its commitment to astrotourism and protecting the night skies. Teide Observatory in Tenerife is home to several telescopes for which to spot stars and also solar activity; while the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in La Palma is renowned as one of the world's premier astronomical research centres, and has the world's largest optical telescope. Go Stargazing
Acting as tour guides of the heavens, the Go Stargazing astronomers will share their knowledge with group sessions learning interesting and amazing facts about our Universe. The friendly and approachable team will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, and to help you spot planets and stars.
Isaac Kenyon
Geoscientist, Isaac Kenyon, is passionate about adventure travel and the great outdoors. As we explore the Canaries, Isaac will be joining us to deliver a series of talks on the geology and wilderness of the Canaries and Madeira.

On certain sailings we offer two types of cruise fares; Freedom and Saver Fares.
Our single guests feel right at home on board our ships; Fred. Olsen have the reputation of sailing the friendliest fleet afloat.
Disembarking when your ship's at anchor is a very different experience to when it's docked portside. Getting ashore in this instance often involves the use of the ship's tender, which is accessed via the steps of a secure gangway.
