Sailing into Inspiration

We were delighted to welcome best-selling author Caroline James as a guest on board Borealis for a recent sailing to Norway. Known for her heartwarming women’s fiction, Caroline often draws inspiration from real-life adventures, and her voyage with us was no exception. Travelling purely for pleasure, she kindly wrote in to The Bridge to share her experience on board.

Here’s her wonderful letter:

Dear lovely team at Fred. Olsen

As a best-selling author of women's fiction, including The Cruise, I often find real-life adventure inspire my story-telling. My recent voyage aboard the 'astonishing Borealis' to Norway was no exception. This experience will undoubtably shape my next novel.

From the moment I stood on the beach at Little Haven, early morning, watching Borealis glide gracefully down the Tyne, I knew this journey would be special. Once on board, the magic continued – every detail by Fred. Olsen created to provide an unforgettable cruise experience for their guests. The journey through Norway's breathtaking fjords was spectacular. Towering, snow-capped mountains and the ethereal beauty of the Northern Lights were moments I will cherish forever. Whether enjoying the ship's excellent amenities or stepping ashore for fascinating excursions, each day brought new highlights.

Dining aboard Borealis was a treat. Every meal was enjoyable, including the experience of different flavours at Colours & Tastes and Vasco to the elegance of afternoon tea. On sea days, the spa provided the perfect retreat for more relaxation. And there's nothing quite like unwinding in one of the lovely lounges, gazing out at endless views as the world glides by.

I would recommend this cruise to everyone, but this journey was more than just a cruise for me; it was a journey of inspiration, adventure and indulgence. Here's to my next voyage, and with luck, another best-seller on the horizon!
