Braemar takes you on memorable journey designed to offer a rich insight into the culture and traditions of Scottish isles and cities, their historical sites and folklore. Get a feel for the Neolithic history of Orkney; Kirkwall is your gateway to sites such as UNESCO-listed Skara Brae, which pre-dates Egypt’s pyramids, the Ring of Brodgar and Stones of Steness. You can discover fascinating Norse villages in the Shetland Islands too; while a visit to Invergordon provides a chance to tour to Loch Ness, in the hope of encountering the waterway’s legendary ‘monster’.[ReadMore]

Your smaller ship also docks in Leith, docking closer to Edinburgh than larger ships can. Enlightening experiences aplenty await you in the Scottish capital, as your rewards for taking the short journey to explore the city. You could wander the Royal Mile and take in Edinburgh Castle, steeped in centuries of history; and see other attractions such as the Royal Yacht Britannia. Revel in some of the finest Scottish scenery from on board Braemar too; away from the well-sailed routes, behold the sight of the West Voe of Sumburgh and ancient Jarlshof, and glide past the Duncansby sea stacks at sunset.

In recent years, we have seen a new era emerging in cruising.

There is a trend for everything to get bigger and busier, and for a cruise to be seen as an alternative to a large luxury resort, with a limitless flurry of activity. But this is not for us. Find out more

We are free to do things a different way because we are family-run. Of course some people enjoy the bigger, busier cruises, but it is not for everyone, and it is not for us. We prefer to do things, 'The Olsen Way'.

We have fewer guests, so the atmosphere on board our ships is always warm and civilised. Our smaller ships allow us to visit the more interesting places that the world has to offer.

We pride ourselves on putting our all into the Fred. Olsen cruise experience. Our itineraries are created from scratch every year, our service is genuinely personal and each and every area of our ships is designed by hand.

Braemar is the shortest of Fred. Olsen's four smaller, friendly ocean-going cruise ships, with dimensions perfect for cruising picturesque, size-restricted rivers and docking in the heart of fascinating towns and cities.

Like the rest of the fleet, Braemar assumes the welcoming feel and intimacy of a country house hotel, and a sense of timeless style and elegance flows through the ship's comfortable bars and lounges, restaurants and spacious accommodation for up to 929 guests.
