Paris (from Rouen)
When it comes to romantic cities it is hard not to think of Paris. The city oozes romantic charm, from walks along the Seine to sipping Champagne in a quintessential Parisienne bar.
Often referred to as the ‘City of Love’, Paris is awash with outstanding architecture, buzzing cafes, restaurants and fascinating museums – there is so much to see and do here. For some of the best views of the city you could chose to climb the Eiffel Tower, or for a less-crowded experience, the Arc de Triomphe’s viewing platform is a must.
And Paris is within easy reach from the cruise port of Rouen, which in itself offers opportunities for romantic walks to discover more about the buildings and scenes painted by Claude Monet.

Another ‘must have’ on our list of romantic destinations is Venice. With winding canals and romantic gondola rides, the famous Rialto Bridge and iconic renaissance architecture, Venice has enchanted hearts for centuries.
For a little touch of extravagance relax in one of the cafes surrounding St Mark’s square and sip on a Bellini while admiring the rolling domes of St Mark’s Basilica. Or you could step away from the tourist trail for a more authentic feel of Venice at one of the many restaurants nestled in the back streets. Some of the best views of the city are from the water so a trip along the Grand Canal by boat is a must.
The picturesque Amalfi Coast epitomises the idea of romance, with sparkling aquamarine seas, charming villages clinging to cliff faces and hidden coves – all seen perfectly as you sail along the coastline into the town of the same name, known as the ‘Pearl of the Mediterranean’. From Sorrento, the island of Capri and iconic Mount Vesuvius can be seen across the bay of Naples.
Our Discovering the Scenic Amalfi Coast itinerary on board Borealis is quite possibly one of the most romantic cruises we have available in 2023, so join us and be swept off your feet on this Italian adventure, find out more here.
Iceland doesn’t necessarily come to mind as a romantic destination, but with its glaciers, waterfalls and lagoons, it’s the perfect romantic cruise destination. One of the most famously romantic parts of the island is the Blue Lagoon, framed by moss-covered lava fields, and with steamy turquoise geothermal waters – perfect for relaxing, and offered as a tour from your ship.
In 2023, there are a number of cruises to Iceland on board Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral, so join us for a romantic experience with a difference. Find out more about all our sailings to Iceland here.
Marrakesh (from Casablanca)
Casablanca is seen as the gateway for visits to the romantic city of Marrakech. Both exotic and vibrant, the city is unlike any other in the world. Known as the Red City, Marrakech is a wonderful contrast of tradition and modernity - explore the picturesque winding alleys of the Medina and inhale the scents of spices as you walk through the souk.
