Barcelona is one of the most cultural and historic cities in the world and on this tour you will have the opportunity to visit some of the main highlights.

Enjoy a pleasant drive through the commercial city centre, visiting the 600-year-old Catalan Gothic Cathedral of Santa Eulàlia - built on the site of a Roman temple dedicated to Hercules. Next it is on to Gaudí’s masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia Church, for an external visit - a must-see in Barcelona. Started in 1882 and still unfinished, this temple, with its peculiar Modernist and Expressionist style, profuse decoration and striking originality, is truly a unique sight. Gaudi actually lived in a hut on the construction site, spending his free time soliciting funds to continue the work. Unfortunately Gaudí was hit by a tram and died shortly after, before he ever saw his work completed, and he is buried in the crypt of the Sagrada Familia.

Continuing, you will stop at the Spanish Village (Poble Espanyol) where you have a chance to admire many interesting arts and crafts, together with different styles of Spanish architecture. Here, time permitting; you may also have the chance to do some shopping. En route back to the quayside, your drive will take you to Montjuïc in order to view the Olympic Stadium as well as a panorama of the city below.

Your tour will commence with a scenic drive towards Gaudí’s masterpiece Sagrada Familia. Designed by Antoni Gaudí in 1882 and still under construction, this church stands witness to its creative and controversial genius and is the best known work of the famous Spanish architect. After a stop to capture the structure on camera, continue towards Passeig de Gracia; one of the major avenues in Barcelona and also one of its most important shopping and business areas. This street also contains several of the city’s most celebrated pieces of architecture, including Casa Batlló and La Pedrera; both designed by Gaudí within the space of a few years and accommodates other Modernist constructions such as Casa Amatller and Casa Lleó Morera.

You are invited to visit one of the private apartments at La Pedrera. This building has typical Gaudí features, particularly the waviness of the exterior façades and scooped out windows. Casa Milà was built between 1906 and 1910 for the Milà family, but is popularly known as La Pedrera (the Quarry). Gaudí did not conceive it as a simple residential building, but as a complete work that ventured from architecture into the realm of sculpture. La Pedrera has been opened to the public, but some private apartments exist and one of the residents will open their home for you to visit.

Señora Carmen will show you around her colourful apartment, full of stories and paintings and some of the original furniture was designed by Gaudí. Enjoy a view of the city from an artistic perspective as you take in some of Gaudi’s most famous masterpieces.

The result is a public park full of imagination, fantasy and colour. The detail of the park expresses Gaudí's desire to integrate architecture into the natural surroundings.

From here, enter the Example area, where the Sagrada Familia Temple is located. Designed by Gaudí in 1881 but never completed, this church stands witness to Gaudí's creative, although controversial, genius. This magnificent monument will be viewed from the outside.

A stop here for free time allows you to explore the area independently, before visiting the outside of two more masterpieces of Gaudí's architecture - the Casa Milà, otherwise known as La Pedrera’ and Casa Batlló.
