Gran Tarajal, Fuerteventura

Fishing boats in port in Gran Tarajal, Fuerteventura

Introduction to Gran Tarajal, Fuerteventura

Gran Tarajal is one of the largest towns on the island of Fuerteventura. Once renowned as a busy shipping town where the island’s tomato export was shipped, Gran Tarajal now offers an authentic taste of Canaries culture with a relaxed feel and a constant air of tranquillity.

A great place to simply relax and enjoy the stunning climate of the Canaries, Gran Tarajal has a beautiful promenade to explore, which runs alongside the town’s gorgeous beaches. There’s also a pretty harbour offering great views of the busy local fishermen and winding hillside streets.

Be sure to take the time to wonder in to the town centre where one of the highlights is the beautiful fountain, situated within a shady oasis of tall palms. The streets are fairly steep, so can be quite a challenge, but the expertly crafted fountain with six Sea Horses spouting water makes for a great photo opportunity. The other monument of note is the 20th century church which sits alongside the fountain.
