Aviles, Spain

Introduction to Aviles

Book a Mediterranean cruise with Fred. Olsen and explore Aviles, a city steeped in history for you to discover and enjoy the architecture.

A former maritime and farming town, the scenic city of Aviles is now one of Spain’s most important industrial centres, producing steel, iron and much more. The city centre is stylish and easy to navigate, with plenty of high street stores, pretty cafes and a number of museums and galleries to visit, while the nearby Old Town quarter is Aviles’ greatest attraction.

Largely pedestrianised, the Old Town of Aviles consists of several historic squares and plazas that are interlinked by a number of pretty streets and boulevards from centuries past. Home to some true architectural gems, the Old Town boasts a number of stunning historic buildings and monuments including the Camposagrado Palace, Palacio de Valdecarzana - Aviles’ sole example of civil medieval architecture - and the 13th and 14th century churches that are dotted around the city.
