Hi, my name is Taylor, I am 15 years old and I have spent the past couple of weeks at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines for my work experience. In the next year or so, I’m hoping to go to Suffolk One Sixth Form College in Ipswich, Suffolk to study Business, Sports and Physics. My hobbies and interests include many sports, such as football and basketball.
My First Day Thoughts
During my first day at Fred. Olsen, I felt very welcomed by everyone in the office. I sat upstairs in the two-storey office, and quickly made friends with the people near me – they even invited me to lunch with them! While we went to Greggs next door to the office for lunch (which was delicious!), the Fred. Olsen office does have a great kitchen area. Tea and coffee is available free all day too, and all the facilities are top class.
The Departments I've Worked With
I was fortunate enough to work with various departments throughout my two weeks at Fred. Olsen.
For example, I worked in the sales department for the first Monday and Tuesday, creating a presentation to present to customers on the Friday of that week. On Wednesday and Thursday, I spent some time listening to calls in Guest Services and Reservations, learning how the staff speak to and help guests.
The next Monday I was with the IT department, helping to fix laptops and sort any online jobs that needed doing. Finally, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, I worked in Marketing creating blogs and presentations on different people, and was asked to provide feedback about how Fred. Olsen can improve their website. They are always open to suggestions!
What Have I Learnt?
I have learnt many valuable things from all of the different departments I’ve worked with, from how to write a blog on a Captain using only a short amount of information to how to sell a product by presenting to customers.
What I liked about Fred. Olsen
The whole Fred. Olsen experience for me was very interesting and educational. I learnt alot about office life, and the workplace environment.
I especially liked spending time with the Sales and Marketing department because, as I study business, I felt familiar with the content that I was provided with.
I really like all the people at Fred. Olsen as they are all friendly and fun to be around. The ships are unreal, I have been on quite a few cruises with Fred. Olsen and every time the experience gets better and better. The crew are fantastic and really nice. I remember the second time I went on a Fred. Olsen cruise, which was almost a year after the first time, and the crew still remembered my name! The crew are one of the many amazing things that Fred. Olsen are known for and personally I give them a five star rating.
Many thanks to everyone who has taken me onboard and guided me through the path of work. A special thanks to all of the team leaders who have advised and helped me along my journey.
Fred. Olsen is a brilliant place to work!
