Cruising by Culzean Castle
Nestled among the greenery along the Firth of Clyde is Culzean Castle (pronounced ‘cull-ain’), designed and built in the late 18th century. This lavish estate was built for the Kennedys, one of the Scotland’s oldest clans and descendants of Robert the Bruce. When the family gave the property to the National Trust for Scotland, they stipulated that the apartment at the top be given to General Eisenhower (in recognition for his role in World War II), and so the castle became the former President’s holiday home for a while.[ReadMoreMob]
Culzean Castle has featured in various films and TV programmes, most notably the 1973 cult film The Wicker Man – exterior shots were used to represent the castle of Lord Summerisle.
