While cruising with Fred. Olsen is of course about exploring the world in pure comfort and classic style; there’s another reason why our loyal guests sail with us again and again. It’s because they always get to enjoy the exceptional dining experience we offer on board our smaller, more intimate ships – an experience that sets us aside from other cruise lines.
Whether you’re escaping to charming European cities on a well-earned short break; taking in the idyllic islands of the Indian Ocean; or even circumnavigating the globe on an epic Grand Voyage, you’ll remember the time you spend in the elegant dining venues on board our ships as fondly as the time you spend ashore.
So, what makes Fred. Olsen’s dining experience so special? Well, it’s the personal, attentive service you receive from our friendly waiters, the ever-changing views you enjoy at every sitting, the company of your loved ones and like-minded fellow guests and most importantly, the award-winning food.
Every tempting treat served on board our ships is painstakingly prepared by our expert chefs who use their knowledge and passion for food to create culinary perfection; and no matter where or when you dine you’ll always find something to tantalise your taste buds. We also cater to vegetarians and do all we can to ensure those with special dietary requirements can enjoy the Fred. Olsen dining experience to the full too. Delicious low-fat, dairy-free, lactose-free, gluten-free and wheat-free foods can all be enjoyed on board; and if you can’t find anything suitable on the menu we’ll be happy to create something for you whenever possible.
With this in mind, let’s take a look at what you can expect to indulge yourself with during a typical day on board our ships…
Breakfast: Whether you’ve got a busy day of exploring ashore ahead of you, or are planning to while away the hours soaking up the sunshine on deck, it’s important to start the day with a good, hearty breakfast. Usually served between 07:15am & 10:00am, our breakfast menu is varied and suits all diets and tastes.
You could help yourself at the breakfast buffet and begin your morning with fresh fruit, cereals served with chilled milk and freshly baked pastries, all washed down with a refreshing glass of fresh fruit juice. Or you could treat yourself to a proper full English breakfast with bacon, sausages, black pudding, eggs and much more. There’s even the option to have a continental breakfast delivered directly to your cabin if you prefer.
Lunch: Lunch on board is served between 12:00pm and 2:00pm every day and can be as light or indulgent as you like, a mid-day snack or a delicious afternoon feast. Take a seat in the main restaurants and order from the varied menu; or perhaps pop into the buffet restaurant for a quick bite.
Our starters, salads, soups and sandwiches are the ideal ‘light bite’; the main courses are perfect if you fancy a larger lunch; while a bowl or two of ice cream or sorbet is the perfect treat before spending the afternoon relaxing by the pool. If you’re really hungry, why not order the lot? You’re on holiday after all…
Dinner: In the main restaurants we serve mouth-watering five-course á la carte meals which are the Piéce de Résistance of the dining experience on board our ships.
Set your taste buds tingling with perfectly prepared starters such as Norwegian gravlax and tangy fruit cocktails; enjoy flavoursome soups and freshly baked bread; devour sumptuous main courses such as lobster risotto and melt-in-your-mouth roast lamb, gnocchi romaine and grilled herb polenta and classics including beef wellington and traditional Irish stew; then satisfy your sweet tooth with a devilish dessert.
You don’t have to have all five courses if you don’t want to (although you’re meant to indulge on holiday, so why wouldn’t you?) but if you don’t you’ll miss out on some of the finest food served at sea.
Alternatively, if you prefer a casual dining experience at a time that suits you, head to the dinner buffet and help yourself to a selection of delicious dishes. The buffet restaurants on board have open seating and are open for dinner until 9pm. They also host the Supper Club from 11pm, which is perfect if you’re somehow still feeling peckish as the evening comes to an end.
Something special…: The dining options above are included in the price of your cruise, so there are no unexpected supplements to pay for your fabulous food; however we also offer a few optional extras which are sure to make your dining experience on board even more memorable.
For the perfect post-lunch treat, you can spoil yourself with our premium Traditional Afternoon Tea service and enjoy a selection of sumptuous teas, sandwiches, pastries and warm scones accompanied by spectacular views from the Observatory. Or in the evening, why not book a table at our Steak & Seafood restaurant for an extra special al fresco dining experience and tuck-in to perfectly cooked steaks, grilled seafood and more.
