Alternatively, take a tour to Xunantunich, one of Belize’s most striking Mayan sites; head into Belizean rainforest to uncover mysterious ancient caves; or join a boat ride into lush marshlands on the lookout for native mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, freshwater and marine fish.
Continuing on to Puerto Limón, eclectic Costa Rican experiences await. Perhaps explore dense rainforest teeming with wildlife via boat ride along the Tortuguero Canal, or see the rainforest from a skywalk or aerial tram; go kayaking for up-close encounters with monkeys, sloths, river turtles and much more; or simply sample the flavours of locally-produced sugar cane treats and coffee. Colon will then serve as your gateway to the wonders of Panama; you could travel back in time at the Embera Indian Tribal Village, or see impressive locks and dams of the Panama Canal – one of the world’s great engineering feats – in action. For a host of Hispanic highlights, Braemar will also take you to Colombia and the captivating city of Cartagena de Indias. Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, which overlooks the city, is a fine example of the colonial Spanish structures to uncover here. Old merchant houses, pretty churches and charming open-air cafés are easily discovered on foot, or even via horse-drawn carriage. Finally, it’s back to the Caribbean to visit stunning Curacao before disembarking in Barbados. During your day in Willemstad, perhaps you’ll opt to enjoy the gorgeous Caribbean sunshine exploring the city’s UNESCO-listed centre; or simply relaxing at your pick of Curacao postcard-perfect beaches.
