You’ll have chances to marvel at volcanic wonders, discover rolling sand dunes and lush valleys, and explore wonderfully floral landscapes – all while enjoying soothing seasonal warmth – on this sun-seeking, autumn adventure on board Black Watch.

All of the gorgeous islands on your itinerary are sure to make a lasting impression, with each destination boasting a smorgasbord of incredible sights and experiences. In the Canaries, three of this sun-soaked archipelago’s most beautiful islands await you. Your ship will call at Lanzarote, where volcanic, lunar-like lands are ripe for exploration. From Arrecife you can head to the breathtaking Timanfaya National Park and the soaring peaks and open lava fields of the Fire Mountains for unmissable photo opportunities. Then there’s a stop at Las Palmas for a chance to explore Gran Canaria’s tranquil Agaete Valley and dense pine forests; or relax in the sunshine at the golden sands of Maspalomas. In Tenerife, the abundant attractions of the Canaries’ largest island await. The Pyramids of Güímar and majestic Mount Teide – towering over the island’s volcanic landscape – are particular highlights, although you may be tempted to simply enjoy a day in the sun at Playa de Las Americas. After spending three days sailing between stunning Spanish islands you’ll also stop at the Portuguese island of Madeira. Nicknamed ‘Garden Island’, Madeira is smothered with lush landscapes and home to a collection botanical gardens bursting with vibrant, fragrant flora, such as the enchanting Monte Palace Tropical Garden. Stopping at Funchal, you could visit Monte Palace; go in search of beautifully unspoilt scenery via the unique levada trails; and even head to Cabo Girão – the world’s second highest sea cliff – for unforgettable ocean views. Black Watch will also take you to two fantastic mainland cities in Spain and Portugal. Before the Canaries you’ll head to pretty Cádiz, an ancient city situated on Spain’s glorious Andalusian coast, for flamenco, traditional tapas and a chance to visit Jerez, the ‘sherry capital of the world’. At the end of your holiday, a call at Leixoes offers you a chance to head into Oporto – Portugal’s cultural second city – for famous port wines and fine baroque architecture.

Real ships
We don’t have boastful megaships. We take immense pride in our fleet of smaller-scaled vessels that retain the style, ambience and understated quality of a country house hotel.  We ensure they remain contemporary too: from winter 2016 to spring 2018 the whole fleet underwent dry dock refits to further enhance the facilities for guests. With the fifth generation Fred. Olsen as Chairman and 170 years of seafaring heritage behind us, we believe we’ve found the perfect formula for you to get the best out of your holiday with us.

Smaller but spacious
A smaller ship doesn’t mean less space; far from it. Each room is comfortably sized, with all that you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. While our vessels are on a more accessible scale, you can have just as much private space.  With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly too. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds – not thousands – of others, giving you a much more authentic experience.

Service with a smile
Each member of the Fred. Olsen team has been carefully selected for their warm and welcoming personalities. The quality of our people, supported by training and development, ensures they will give you a great holiday: in guest feedback our staff are always the most highly-rated aspect of the whole experience.

Black Watch is the ultimate home-from-home at sea: spacious with a friendly, familiar feel and providing a traditional cruise experience. Refurbished at the end of 2016, the 804-guest Black Watch features stylish new décor, fittings and furniture, plus the new Black Watch Room restaurant.

What's more, new soft furnishing, smart TVs and mini-bars enhance the accommodation on board, while the cinema has been upgraded too. Despite all these new features, Black Watch still retains her sleek, intimate style and has a welcoming ambience - just like the rest of the Fred. Olsen fleet.
