Featuring scenic cruising of a collection of breathtaking, world-renowned waterways and calls into four beautiful fjordland destinations, this incredible Norwegian exploration is filled with spellbinding scenery from beginning to end. Soaring mountains, stunning glaciers, magnificent waterfalls and much more, you’ll discover a wealth of natural wonders during a magical week on board Balmoral.

For a perfect introduction to the spectacular fjordland you’ll begin your holiday with fascinating scenic cruising of Lysefjord; a feat only possible on smaller ships. [ReadMoreMob]Dramatic mountains, cliffs and intriguing rock formations come into view as you glide along the glassy waters here – be sure to take it all in from your ship’s open decks. Then there is a plethora of highlights to discover in beautiful Bergen. Attractions include the famous, UNESCO-listed Bryggen Wharf, the traditional fish market and the interesting Troldhaugen Museum. The views on offer from the top of Mount Fløyen – reached via the funicular railway – are not-to-be-missed. A call at Flåm offers an opportunity to embark on another magical railway journey too. A ride on the Flåmsbana line presents views of towering mountain peaks and cascading waterfalls. Alternatively, you could take the opportunity to marvel at the awe-inspiring Sognefjord from the 650-metre-high Stegastein Lookout. Whatever you choose to do in Flåm, you’re sure to look forward to the evening of scenic cruising that follows; Balmoral will divert down Nærøyfjord and bring you closer to the natural treasures of one of National Geographic’s top two Natural World Heritage Sites. Pretty Olden is tucked away at the very farthest reaches of Nordfjord, and well worth taking the journey deep into the fjordland to discover. Perhaps you’ll choose to head ashore an enjoy a relaxing stroll in the village; or join tours in search of astonishing natural wonders such as the Briksdal Glacier and the gorgeous Lovatnet Lake. Another evening of memorable scenic cruising follows, taking in the captivating Nordfjord and Hornelen, Europe’s highest sea cliff, before your ship sails overnight to Hellesylt. A short stop in this charming, UNESCO-listed village affords opportunities to discover the striking Hellesylt Waterfall, Tystigen Glacier and Hornindalsvatnet – Europe’s deepest lake – before your time in the fjordland concludes with yet more scenic cruising. The unspoilt landscapes of Geirangerfjord – another of National Geographic’s top Natural World Heritage Sites; the glorious Seven Sisters Waterfall; the picturesque Sunnylvsfjord and Storfjord; and rugged Hjørundfjord are sure to make a lasting impression.

Refurbished in 2017, Balmoral is the largest of Fred. Olsen's smaller, friendly ocean-going cruise ships – with capacity for up to 1,350 guests – yet is still small enough to navigate narrow waterways such as Kiel Canal and bring inspirational sights and experiences closer to you. Like the rest of the fleet, Balmoral retains a warm, welcoming atmosphere and features comfortable accommodation and lounges, stylish restaurants and plenty of open-deck space.

Real ships
We don’t have boastful megaships. We take immense pride in our fleet of smaller-scaled vessels that retain the style, ambience and understated quality of a country house hotel.  We ensure they remain contemporary too: from winter 2016 to spring 2018 the whole fleet underwent dry dock refits to further enhance the facilities for guests. With the fifth generation Fred. Olsen as Chairman and 170 years of seafaring heritage behind us, we believe we’ve found the perfect formula for you to get the best out of your holiday with us.

Smaller but spacious
A smaller ship doesn’t mean less space; far from it. Each room is comfortably sized, with all that you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. While our vessels are on a more accessible scale, you can have just as much private space.  With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly too. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds – not thousands – of others, giving you a much more authentic experience.

Service with a smile
Each member of the Fred. Olsen team has been carefully selected for their warm and welcoming personalities. The quality of our people, supported by training and development, ensures they will give you a great holiday: in guest feedback our staff are always the most highly-rated aspect of the whole experience.
