With Braemar bringing you closer to five captivating cities, you’ll have chances to immerse yourself in the quintessential cultures, customs and traditions of Spain and Portugal. A host of highlights will be within walking distance of your ship’s docking location in each destination, including the annual Feria de Abril festival in Seville – the pièce de résistance of this incredible 12-night cruise.

Spending two days in Seville at one of the best times of the year to visit the stunning Andalusian capital will be simply unforgettable. Unlike larger ships, smaller-sized Braemar can sail the beautiful Guadalquivir River straight into the city and dock close to the enchanting Parque de Maria Luisa and iconic Plaza de España, so you’ll be in the heart of the action here. Splendid attractions such as the Real Alcázar and the grand, UNESCO-listed Gothic Cathedral are within easy reach of your convenient docking location, though the highlight of your special extended stay is sure to be Seville’s spectacular annual festival. You can soak up the jubilant atmosphere of Feria de Abril with the friendly locals and watch horse-drawn carriages and flamenco dancers parade through the streets and squares. Be sure to be back on board Braemar on the final night of the festival to enjoy unspoilt views of the spectacular midnight fireworks display – an experience to remember for years to come. [ReadMore]

Elsewhere in Spain, you’ll also dock close to the heart of charming Cádiz and laid-back La Coruña. In Cádiz, a typically Andalusian ancient maze of narrow cobblestone streets, alleys and picturesque squares await your exploration; on foot you can seek-out highlights such as Torre Tavira, Plaza de España and traditional tapas bars. Alternatively, opt to tour to nearby Jerez, for delicious sherry and fantastic equestrian art. La Coruña is a delight for sightseeing too; a compact Old Quarter, impressive promenade and plethora of landmarks – including the iconic Torre de Hercules – are among many attractions here. This Galican gem is also your gateway to the magnificent Santiago de Compostela cathedral. On the Portuguese leg of your adventure, Braemar will bring you closer to two cities that are sure to delight. There’s Lisbon, the picturesque Portuguese capital, with its quaint backstreets, fascinating museums and impressive maritime monuments; and Oporto, on tour from Leixoes, where you can explore the enchanting second city’s UNESCO-listed historic centre and visit world-famous port wine cellars.

Refurbished in 2017, elegant Braemar is the shortest of Fred. Olsen's four smaller, friendly ocean-going cruise ships, with dimensions perfect for cruising picturesque, size-restricted rivers and docking in the heart of fascinating towns and cities.

Like the rest of the fleet, Braemar assumes the welcoming feel and intimacy of a country house hotel, and a sense of timeless style and elegance flows through the ship's comfortable bars and lounges, restaurants and spacious accommodation for up to 929 guests.

Real ships
We don’t have boastful megaships. We take immense pride in our fleet of smaller-scaled vessels that retain the style, ambience and understated quality of a country house hotel.  We ensure they remain contemporary too: from winter 2016 to spring 2018 the whole fleet underwent dry dock refits to further enhance the facilities for guests. With the fifth generation Fred. Olsen as Chairman and 170 years of seafaring heritage behind us, we believe we’ve found the perfect formula for you to get the best out of your holiday with us.

Smaller but spacious
A smaller ship doesn’t mean less space; far from it. Each room is comfortably sized, with all that you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. While our vessels are on a more accessible scale, you can have just as much private space.  With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly too. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds – not thousands – of others, giving you a much more authentic experience.

Service with a smile
Each member of the Fred. Olsen team has been carefully selected for their warm and welcoming personalities. The quality of our people, supported by training and development, ensures they will give you a great holiday: in guest feedback our staff are always the most highly-rated aspect of the whole experience.
