The cruise at a glance

The Olsen Way Highlights

Enjoy a taste of the Norwegian Fjords the Olsen way, with Balmoral diverting away from the usual route to cruise Lysefjord – out of reach to larger ships – the day after embarkation. There are chances to kayak the Nordfjord, hike with a local atop Bergen’s Mount Fløyen, and visit the Briksdal Valley from Olden. Cruising past the towering Hornelen sea cliff has been timed especially for sunset.

Highlights

Hanseatic wharf in Bergen, Norway, Europe.

Hanseatic trading in Bergen

The Hanseatic city of Bergen is known for its history as a trading town for fish from the north of Norway, and much of this is still evident today at the colourful Bryggen area, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our guest speaker Ian Gunn, will provide you with an insight into Bergen and the history of the Hanseatic League’s impact on Norway’s second city.

Lysefjord, Norway

Landscapes of the fjords

As our Scenic Discoveries are designed for seeing the world from the unique perspective of our cruise ships, Balmoral’s Captain will divert away from the usual cruising route to Lysefjord, which is only accessible by smaller ships. You’ll be accompanied by Andy Los, a specialist in Geology, who will be on hand to offer an insight into how the fjords were formed and how the Ice Age affected the scenery you’ll see on this Norwegian Fjords cruise.
