You will call into three cities, with chances to explore the verdant landscapes, experience the local culture and marvel at architecture that showcases fascinating history. Getxo is the perfect place to sample pintxos, the Basque Country’s take on tapas, and locally produced Rioja wine, while in Gijón, you can sample locally-produced Asturian cider. In La Coruña, the UNESCO World Heritage Site and spiritual city of Santiago de Compostela awaits exploration. Bolette will also cruise by the Tower of Hercules, believed to be the only Roman lighthouse in existence.

Explore ‘España Verde’
We have carefully hand-crafted this cruise to offer you the chance to explore the verdant landscapes and picturesque coastlines of ‘España Verde’ otherwise known as ‘Green Spain’. In Gijón you are perfectly placed to explore the towering peaks, deep gorges and lush valleys of the Pico de Europa National Park. It is also home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, such as the Cantabrian brown bear, Iberian wolf and the Griffon vulture. Meanwhile, La Coruña is your gateway to the Costa da Morte, a rugged and wild stretch of coastline which is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, treacherous waters and picturesque fishing villages.
Experience the Cultures of Northern Spain
Throughout this cruise, you will have plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the local way of life and discover the rich Galician culture. In Gijón, you can sample Asturian sidra, a traditional cider known for its crisp flavour and low alcohol content, while Getxo is your gateway to the lush vineyards of Basque Country, one of Spain’s most prestigious wine regions which is famous for its high-quality Rioja wine. You will also have time to sample local signature dishes, such as pulpo a la gallega, empanadas and lacón con grelos during your Northern Spain cruise too.

Begin at the Picos de Europa National Park, to see the natural cave in the Sanctuary of Covadonga, home to a natural flowing waterfall. Next, visit the Basilica of Covadonga before enjoying a typical Asturian lunch in the square opposite. Then, travel to Cangas de Onis to visit the Roman Bridge, Town Hall, Palace of Cortés, and Chapel of San Antonio.

Best of Asturias
This panoramic drive through Gijón reveals the art of Asturian cider-making. You will visit the grandeur of Universidad Laboral, before continuing to a traditional cider cellar. Here you will be shown the iconic method of pouring and be able to taste it for yourself, complemented by Asturian cheese. Oviedo, the capital of the Principality of Asturias, is your final stop, where you will have time to explore the Medieval cathedral and Old Quarter.

An accredited lecturer with the Arts Society and hailing from Santander, Arantxa will be speaking on the culture and way of life in Northern Spain as well as the art and architecture of the Guggenheim and Santiago de Compostella.

On certain sailings we offer two types of cruise fares; Freedom and Saver Fares.
Our single guests feel right at home on board our ships; Fred. Olsen have the reputation of sailing the friendliest fleet afloat.
Disembarking when your ship's at anchor is a very different experience to when it's docked portside. Getting ashore in this instance often involves the use of the ship's tender, which is accessed via the steps of a secure gangway.
