Join Black Watch on an exciting exploration of Portugal, visiting culture-rich, attraction packed cities and three beautiful islands in the Atlantic. As well as encountering the many sides of Portugal you’ll also sail to Spain and join the rest of our fleet for an unforgettable Fred. Olsen celebration.

In the picturesque Azores you’ll take in two of the remote archipelago’s most beautiful islands on consecutive days. Horta’s gorgeous blue flag marina will welcome you to Faial Island, where breathtaking lakes, valleys, cliffs and the incredible volcanic structures of Caldeira and Capelinhos await your discovery. Then from Ponta Delgada, you have the chance to see one of the Azores most famous natural wonders – the Sete Cidades volcano – in all its impressive glory. You could also tour to the mystical Furnas Valley and marvel at the hot springs and fumaroles; or perhaps stay in the city and relax at one of the waterfront cafés. Up next is a call into Funchal, the capital of Madeira. Here you can explore a number of enchanting colourful gardens and dense forests, although you might be tempted to visit the famous Reid’s Hotel for an opulent afternoon tea instead. [ReadMore]

Black Watch will then divert to Spain and dock alongside Balmoral, Braemar and Boudicca in historic Cádiz for the ‘Captains in Cádiz’ event, marking the 170th anniversary of Fred. Olsen's beginnings in shipping. See our entire fleet together for only the second time ever and enjoy a memorable day of themed entertainment, food and fun on board and on the quayside with our Captains, crews and your fellow guests – a simply unforgettable experience. After this special day in Spain your Portuguese exploration ends will calls into two fine cities. In Lisbon you’ll have the opportunity to see the capital’s architectural wonders, such as the Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery, after sailing under the iconic 25 de Abril Bridge; while from Leixoes you can take a short trip to Oporto and explore the UNESCO-listed Ribeira District, or sample authentic port wine at the city’s famous wine cellars.

Real ships
We’re not interested in gimmicks like zip wires, climbing walls or celebrity chefs. We don’t have boastful megaships. We take immense pride in our fleet of smaller-scaled vessels that retain the style, ambience and understated quality of a country house hotel.  We ensure they remain contemporary too: from winter 2016 to spring 2018 the whole fleet underwent dry dock refits to further enhance the facilities for guests. With the fifth generation Fred. Olsen as Chairman and 170 years of seafaring heritage behind us, we believe we’ve found the perfect formula for you to get the best out of your holiday with us.

Smaller but spacious
A smaller ship doesn’t mean less space; far from it. Each room is comfortably sized, with all that you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. While our vessels are on a more accessible scale, you can have just as much private space.  With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly too. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds – not thousands – of others, giving you a much more authentic experience.

Service with a smile
Each member of the Fred. Olsen team has been carefully selected for their warm and welcoming personalities. The quality of our people, supported by training and development, ensures they will give you a great holiday: in guest feedback our staff are always the most highly-rated aspect of the whole experience.
