Borealis

Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights

Along with your visit being timed to see puffins before they migrate, this rewarding journey has been designed by our Journey Planners to show you Iceland’s remarkable scenery, formed by geothermal activity. Akureyri is well-placed for you to embark on humpback whale-watching tours. You can also search for marine life from the comfort of your ship, assisted by conservationists from wildlife charity ORCA. Elsewhere, tours to Vigur Island (reachable from Ísafjörður) and a visit to the hard-to-reach island of Heimaey present the best chances of spotting puffins. Awe-inspiring wonders of nature can be seen throughout your cruise, including the spurting Strokkur Geyser, the powerful Goðafoss Waterfall, and rugged, volcanic scenery; or immerse yourself in Iceland's way of life by enjoying a hike or taking a dip in a warming geothermal spa, and hear tales of folklore from centuries past.

Highlights

Dynjandi foss cascade waterfall, Westfjords, Iceland

Explore the Land of Fire & Ice

We have planned this itinerary to allow you to discover the contrasting volcanoes, fjords, geysers, glaciers and waterfalls which give Iceland it’s famous moniker. From Reykjavík, you can explore the spectacular Golden Circle, visiting Thingveller National Park, Geysir Geothermal Area and Gullfoss Waterfall, while our call into Ísafjörður has you perfectly placed to visit the thundering waters of Dynjandi Falls. You will be joined on board by Geologist Tony Waltham who will speak about the volcanoes, glaciers and waterfalls of Iceland ahead of our arrival.

Blue Lagoon, Iceland

Experience the Icelandic Culture

At each port of call on this exciting cruise, you can experience the Icelandic way of life, a blend of ancient traditions and modern influences shaped by the country’s unique history and landscapes. Embrace the wellness culture by relaxing in the warm waters of the Blue Lagoon or Sky Lagoon from Reykjavík, enjoy a hike to Valagil Waterfall from Ísafjörður, and ride across the volcanic landscapes on horseback from Akureyri. You can also discover the rich folklore of Iceland, abundant with mythical creatures and epic sagas.

Humpback whale fluking tail

Seek Out Whales, Dolphins & Seabirds

We have timed this cruise to give you the best possible opportunity to spot wildlife such as humpback whales and puffins in their natural habitats, before they head south in August. Puffins are often seen at Eyjafjörður, Iceland’s longest fjord, which also attracts cetaceans such as dolphins and even blue whales. Ocean conservationists ORCA will also be on board, leading wildlife spotting sessions on deck and helping you identify the marine life you may see.
