An unmissable exploration of the Med and Adriatic, offering chances to delve into the rich history and culture of centuries-old, iconic destinations, and scenic cruise beautiful waterways. The Adriatic leg of your adventure will be one to remember, as your smaller ship takes you closer to incredible cities in Croatia and Montenegro. Dubrovnik, Croatia’s ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, is the pinnacle; capture the beauty, as well as the history, of this UNESCO-listed city, with its imposing fortifications and terracotta-topped buildings. In Split, see the influences of Emperor Diocletian in the ruins of his 4th century palace; or tour to the war-torn town of Trogir, where impressive examples of centuries-old architecture await. Along the coast, after sailing the fjord-like Bay of Kotor at sunrise, Kotor beckons amongst scenes of Montenegro’s magnificent landscapes; the Venetian Works of Defence, built between the 15th and 17th centuries, will be in view of your ship and ready for your exploration when you venture ashore.[ReadMore]

Exploring the Med and uncovering the very best of the region makes for an unforgettable experience. Visiting glorious Greece is undoubted highlight, with ancient wonders revealing themselves; Piraeus is your starting point for exploring engrossing Athens, home of legendary ruins and temples such as the 2,500-year-old Parthenon and Agias Apostoli, while Olympia – the home of the Olympic Games – is within reach of Katakolon. You'll also take in the delights of Thessaloniki, Kavala and Volos, blending scenic beauty with a typically-Greek mix of history, culture and delicious cuisine. If that wasn’t enough, there's a visit to Gibraltar and a sail into the magnificent Grand Harbour of Valletta, the 16th century walled capital of Malta and a treasure trove of Baroque architectural gems. Cities on Spanish shores will delight too; enjoy time in the sun-kissed Menorcan city of Mahon and Cádiz, with its gorgeous Andalusian coastline, ancient sites and traditional tapas bars.

In recent years, we have seen a new era emerging in cruising.

There is a trend for everything to get bigger and busier, and for a cruise to be seen as an alternative to a large luxury resort, with a limitless flurry of activity. But this is not for us. Find out more

1. WE ARE PROUD TO SAIL OUR OWN COURSE

We are free to do things a different way because we are family-run. Of course some people enjoy the bigger, busier cruises, but it is not for everyone, and it is not for us. We prefer to do things, 'The Olsen Way'.

2. SMALLER IS BETTER

We have fewer guests, so the atmosphere on board our ships is always warm and civilised. Our smaller ships allow us to visit the more interesting places that the world has to offer.

3. HAND-CRAFTED, NOT MASS PRODUCED

We pride ourselves on putting our all into the Fred. Olsen cruise experience. Our itineraries are created from scratch every year, our service is genuinely personal and each and every area of our ships is designed by hand.

Balmoral, carrying up to 1,350 guests is small enough to navigate narrow waterways such as Kiel Canal and bring inspirational sights and experiences closer to you.

Like the rest of the fleet, Balmoral retains a warm, welcoming atmosphere and features comfortable accommodation and lounges, stylish restaurants and plenty of open-deck space.
