Combining calls at five tempting destinations, including an overnight stop in beautiful Bordeaux, with a generous helping of scenic river cruising, this immersive exploration of France presents unforgettable experiences at every turn. Impressive architecture, remarkable historic sites, world-famous vineyards and much more awaits your discovery.

Your visit to Bordeaux will be wonderfully rewarding, with scenic cruising of the picturesque Gironde and Garonne waterways presenting views of gorgeous countryside scenes en route, and an overnight stay affording you time to explore the city at your leisure and in-depth. Courtesy of Black Watch’s smaller size, you’ll dock close to the centre of Bordeaux, much of which is UNESCO-listed, so your exploration of the ‘Pearl of Aquitane’ begins at the end of the gangway. Venture ashore and countless attractions, such as Calihau Gate, the Cathédrale Saint-André, the Grand Théâtre and Place de La Bourse, are sure to delight. You can sample Bordeaux’s famous wine culture too; invigorating experiences await at the Cité du Vin Museum, which offers a fantastic insight into the history of French wine and cuisine, and on authentic tours to the renowned vineyards of the Medoc region. This 10-night French foray also includes a rare call at Saint Malo, on the stunning coast of Brittany. With its fascinating Old Town, this formerly fortified island begs for exploration; within the city’s imposing granite walls you’ll find magnificent examples of Romanesque and Gothic style architecture. Don’t miss the fairytale island of Mont St Michel, with its spectacular Benedictine abbey and collection of national heritage sites. Two enchanting cities situated on this inspirational River Seine await you too. You’ll visit Rouen after hours of relaxing daytime scenic cruising along the Seine, for chances to uncover tales of Joan of Arc and Richard the Lionheart, marvel at the stunning Gothic-style Cathédrale Notre-Dame, or even take a romantic trip to Paris. Back along the Seine, Honfleur is sure to leave you spellbound; take time to explore the charming 16th century cobbled streets and historic harbour here. Elsewhere, there’s La Pallice, gateway to the scenic landscapes and landmarks of La Rochelle; the flavoursome Cognac region; and the marshlands of Marais Poitevin.

Black Watch is the ultimate home-from-home at sea: spacious with a friendly, familiar feel and providing a traditional cruise experience. Refurbished at the end of 2016, the 804-guest Black Watch features stylish new décor, fittings and furniture, plus the new Black Watch Room restaurant.

What's more, new soft furnishing, smart TVs and mini-bars enhance the accommodation on board, while the cinema has been upgraded too. Despite all these new features, Black Watch still retains her sleek, intimate style and has a welcoming ambience - just like the rest of the Fred. Olsen fleet.

Real ships
We’re not interested in gimmicks like zip wires, climbing walls or celebrity chefs. We don’t have boastful megaships. We take immense pride in our fleet of smaller-scaled vessels that retain the style, ambience and understated quality of a country house hotel.  We ensure they remain contemporary too: from winter 2016 to spring 2018 the whole fleet underwent dry dock refits to further enhance the facilities for guests. With the fifth generation Fred. Olsen as Chairman and 170 years of seafaring heritage behind us, we believe we’ve found the perfect formula for you to get the best out of your holiday with us.

Smaller but spacious
A smaller ship doesn’t mean less space; far from it. Each room is comfortably sized, with all that you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. While our vessels are on a more accessible scale, you can have just as much private space.  With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly too. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds – not thousands – of others, giving you a much more authentic experience.

Service with a smile
Each member of the Fred. Olsen team has been carefully selected for their warm and welcoming personalities. The quality of our people, supported by training and development, ensures they will give you a great holiday: in guest feedback our staff are always the most highly-rated aspect of the whole experience.
