Combining enthralling French city discovery and scenic cruising with an authentic taste of northern Spain creates truly rewarding, full-flavoured adventure. Black Watch serenely sails the River Seine, past beautiful countryside and quaint waterside communes, all the way to Rouen. In Bordeaux, Black Watch docks alongside the promenade, close to the city’s UNESCO-listed heart and its many highlights. Exploration can begin from the end of your small ship’s gangway; a short walk is all it takes to uncover plenty of historical and architectural highlights, from Cathédrale Saint-André to Calihau Gate. A full-day in Bordeaux is ample time to sample the famed wine culture too; or even visit one of the family-run countryside vineyards nearby. You also benefit from a convenient central docking location in the Spanish gem of Avilés, which – with its authentic Asturian cider houses – is another city renowned for its traditional local tipples, while Getxo offers Basque pintxos and delicious Rioja wines too.

Sailing with hundreds, not thousands, of others allows you to get ashore faster too, and make the most of each destination.
