Portugal’s remarkable diversity and beauty is yours to experience, as Black Watch takes you to beautiful islands in the Azores, floral Madeira and the cultural city of Oporto. What’s more, you’ll also be part of the ‘Four Fred.’s in Funchal’ event, joining guests and crew from Fred. Olsen’s entire fleet of ocean-going ships for an unforgettable day of celebration in the Madeiran capital.

Your incredible exploration of the breathtaking Azores takes in three of the archipelago’s most beautifully unspoilt, captivating islands. On Terceira Island, your day-long stop at Praia da Vitoria affords time to visit the historic port city of Angra do Heroismo. This UNESCO-listed jewel in Terceira’s crown boasts interesting museums and a collection of impressive palaces and churches including the 16th century Sé Cathedral. The 205-metre-high Monte Brasil, towering over Angra do Heroismo, offers fantastic views of the city and the surrounding scenery. Then there’s hard-to-reach Faial Island, a wonderland of volcanic craters, tranquil lakes and emerald green valleys. Horta is your starting point for discovering the island’s natural highlights, such as the magnificent Capelinhos Volcano. The Capelinhos is Faial’s most famous landmark and can be seen in all its striking glory on a scenic island drive or exhilarating 4x4 adventure. Within Horta, the historic city centre and picturesque marina are also well worth exploring. [ReadMore]

Incredible volcanic wonders await on São Miguel Island too. Ponta Delgada is your gateway to the extinct Sete Cidades Volcano, where a 13-kilometre-wide crater and colourful lakes create an astonishing scene. Elsewhere there’s Terra Nosta Park, a haven of gorgeous gardens, geo-thermal pools and dense woodlands that are home to stunning endemic flora. After your Azorean adventure you’ll head to Madeira for the very special ‘Four Fred.’s in Funchal’ event. You’ll dock alongside Braemar, Balmoral and Boudicca and be part of a memorable day of celebration shared with crew and fellow guests from all four ocean-going ships in the Fred. Olsen fleet. You can enjoy fantastic live entertainment; tuck-in to delicious, specially prepared menus; and even visit the other ships in the fleet during this simply unforgettable occasion. Away from all the festivity, there are chances to explore Madeira’s botanical gardens and picturesque walking trails too. To complete your in-depth Portuguese discovery Black Watch brings you to the mainland, for a chance to visit Oporto from Leixoes. Tour to Portugal’s second city for chances to ride a Rabelo boat along the Douro River, followed by a sampling of famous port wines; and wander the UNESCO-listed historic centre.

Black Watch is the ultimate home-from-home at sea: spacious with a friendly, familiar feel and providing a traditional cruise experience. Refurbished at the end of 2016, the 804-guest Black Watch features stylish new décor, fittings and furniture, plus the new Black Watch Room restaurant.

What's more, new soft furnishing, smart TVs and mini-bars enhance the accommodation on board, while the cinema has been upgraded too. Despite all these new features, Black Watch still retains her sleek, intimate style and has a welcoming ambience - just like the rest of the Fred. Olsen fleet.

Real ships
We’re not interested in gimmicks like zip wires, climbing walls or celebrity chefs. We don’t have boastful megaships. We take immense pride in our fleet of smaller-scaled vessels that retain the style, ambience and understated quality of a country house hotel.  We ensure they remain contemporary too: from winter 2016 to spring 2018 the whole fleet underwent dry dock refits to further enhance the facilities for guests. With the fifth generation Fred. Olsen as Chairman and 170 years of seafaring heritage behind us, we believe we’ve found the perfect formula for you to get the best out of your holiday with us.

Smaller but spacious
A smaller ship doesn’t mean less space; far from it. Each room is comfortably sized, with all that you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. While our vessels are on a more accessible scale, you can have just as much private space.  With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly too. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds – not thousands – of others, giving you a much more authentic experience.

Service with a smile
Each member of the Fred. Olsen team has been carefully selected for their warm and welcoming personalities. The quality of our people, supported by training and development, ensures they will give you a great holiday: in guest feedback our staff are always the most highly-rated aspect of the whole experience.
