Borealis

The cruise at a glance

The Olsen Way Highlights

Our team has crafted this summertime sailing to show you Norway’s natural beauty at a time of year when the landscapes are greener and the days are longer. A chance of finer weather provides more opportunities for activities such as kayaking on the Hardangerfjord, too. Borealis is small enough to sail Lysefjord, passing the famous Pulpit Rock. There will also be scenic diversions along UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord and Maurangerfjord, where your ship will make a turn in front of the sprawling Fureberg Waterfall. A ride on the Flåm Railway – considered one of the best train journeys on earth – is recommended.

Highlights

Mollebukta bay, with Swords in Rock monument commemorating Battle of Hafrsfjord Stavanger

Viking Heritage

The Battle of Hafrsfjord is prominent in Norway’s history as it was the conclusion of King Harald I’s declaration to become the sole ruler of the country – fought between 872 and 900, it was a huge naval battle between King Harald and several other regional Kings. Harald was victorious in uniting several kingdoms under a single monarch.

Lysefjord, Norway

Fjord discoveries

The scenic discoveries on this cruise are endless, with diversions into at least four outstanding Norwegian fjords. In Lysefjord, sail past the famous Pulpit Rock; enjoy a visit to Vøringfoss Waterfall from Eidfjord, which has a free fall of 145 metres; cruise into size-restricted Maurangerfjord – home to the sprawling Fureberg Waterfall, which flows down a steep hillside, under the road into the fjord.

Flam railway, Norway

One of the best train journeys on earth

Built between 1920 and 1940, the Flåmsbana is considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful train journeys, taking you past crystal clear fjords and rivers, and up to mountain peaks. The train will take you through several tunnels and over bridges, with magnificent views over the valleys below, as the railway runs from the end of Aurlandsfjord to the highest mountains at Myrdal.
