As Borealis takes you on a discovery of the Med, you’ll get to visit, explore and delve into the history and culture of some of the region’s most beautiful and iconic cities. Experience unforgettable sightseeing in Italy; there’s a full-day stop at the port of Civitavecchia, from where Rome and its many ancient sites and landmarks – such as the Forum and Palatine Hill – await. You could even go ‘behind the scenes’ at the Colosseum, a modern Wonder of the World, for an in-depth look into why it’s such a symbol of the Roman reign, and see iconic religious sites including the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel. Visiting Cagliari will be an undoubted highlight too; you’ll dock close to the centre of Sardinia’s capital and be perfectly placed to go in search of lesser known, but important, Roman sites such as ancient Nora and the Temple of Antas. Naples meanwhile will be the perfect starting point for touring to, and exploring, famous sites such as Herculaneum, Baia and Pompeii, the city destroyed centuries ago by an eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Seeing Vesuvius itself will also be a sight to behold during your visit to Italy. In addition to your Italian discoveries, there are chances to see out the centuries-old monuments and landmarks of Spanish and French cities too. There are yet more Roman sites to discover in Cartagena, such as the city’s iconic amphitheatre and ancient walls, while in Ajaccio – Corsica’s colourful capital – you’ll find fine examples of ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Saracen-influence architecture, as well as gorgeous sandy beaches. Your smaller ship willalso  take you closer to the attractions of La Coruna, such as the Torre de Hercules lighthouse; and Malaga, renowned for its fortresses, castles and aesthetic treasures crafted by Picasso.

Borealis, like her sister ship Bolette, has capacity for less than 1,400 guests but is larger in overall size than the other vessels in the Fred. Olsen fleet. This means when you come on board for a memorable cruise holiday, to relax and enjoy a premium level of comfort – as well as our renowned personal service – in the elegant public areas, lounges, bars and dining venues, you have even more space in which to do so.

With its warm, welcoming atmosphere and timeless style, and classic open deck spaces providing a place to fully immerse yourself in the magic of ocean cruising, Borealis is very much in keeping with what our guests have come to expect from a Fred. Olsen ship.

In recent years, we have seen a new era emerging in cruising.

There is a trend for everything to get bigger and busier, and for a cruise to be seen as an alternative to a large luxury resort, with a limitless flurry of activity. But this is not for us. Find out more

We are free to do things a different way because we are family-run. Of course some people enjoy the bigger, busier cruises, but it is not for everyone, and it is not for us. We prefer to do things, 'The Olsen Way'.

We have fewer guests, so the atmosphere on board our ships is always warm and civilised. Our smaller ships allow us to visit the more interesting places that the world has to offer.

We pride ourselves on putting our all into the Fred. Olsen cruise experience. Our itineraries are created from scratch every year, our service is genuinely personal and each and every area of our ships is designed by hand.
