An indulgent escape to Belgium and the Netherlands, this magical cruise on board Black Watch offers you chances to go in search of fragrant flowers, delicious chocolates, sparkling diamonds and much more in Amsterdam and Antwerp at the most romantic time of the year.

For a memorable start to your five-night break, you’ll spend Valentine’s evening on board your smaller, more intimate cruise ship, enjoying delicious food, a few glasses of your favourite tipple and fantastic entertainment in the company of loved-ones, friends and fellow guests as you sail to the Netherlands. Then, after negotiating the locks and narrow waters of the Nordzeekanaal, Black Watch will dock in Amsterdam – the Dutch capital. Here you can uncover an abundance of attractions, from the unique urban landscape of the UNESCO-listed Canal Ring to fascinating museums such as Anne Frank House and the Tulip Museum, where you can learn about the history of the tulip and how it became a Dutch icon. Your ship’s favourable docking location close to the centre of Amsterdam is the perfect place to begin your exploration. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a romantic boat tour of the iconic canals and visit the floating flower market too. [ReadMore]

The sense of romance will continue to linger as you sail into the beautiful Belgian city of Antwerp via the Western Scheldt River, admiring picturesque countryside scenes en route. Once docked in Antwerp, where Black Watch will again bring you closer to the city’s highlights, you’ll have an overnight stay to explore at your own pace. You could visit a traditional chocolate shop to pick up a box of authentic Belgian chocolates for a loved-one perhaps; enjoy some retail therapy, with plenty of designer stores to choose from; or, if you’re feeling really indulgent, treat yourself to something extra special from Antwerp’s world-famous Diamond District. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a romantic stroll around the city in the evening, taking in highlights such as the Grote Markt, neo-Gothic Central Station and the iconic Cathedral of Our Lady under moonlight. Away from Antwerp, nearby Ghent is within reach on tour. This medieval town is well worth a visit, with its array of impressive Gothic monuments, fantastic museums and artisan chocolatiers.

Black Watch is the ultimate home-from-home at sea: spacious with a friendly, familiar feel and providing a traditional cruise experience. Refurbished at the end of 2016, the 804-guest Black Watch features stylish new décor, fittings and furniture, plus the new The Poolside restaurant. What's more, new TVs, mini-bars and safes enhance the accommodation on board, while the on board cinema has been upgraded too. Despite all these new features, Black Watch still retains her sleek, intimate style and has a welcoming ambience - just like the rest of the Fred. Olsen fleet.

Rest assured, all of the following comes as standard on every Fred. Olsen cruise:

  • Comfortable rooms and suites with TV, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and individually controlled air conditioning
  • Tempting cuisine every day throughout your cruise - with five-course à la carte dinners, casual breakfast and lunch buffets and late-night snacks

Real ships
We’re not interested in gimmicks like zip wires, climbing walls or celebrity chefs. We don’t have boastful megaships. We take immense pride in our fleet of smaller-scaled vessels that retain the style, ambience and understated quality of a country house hotel.  We ensure they remain contemporary too: from winter 2016 to spring 2018 the whole fleet underwent dry dock refits to further enhance the facilities for guests. With the fifth generation Fred. Olsen as Chairman and 170 years of seafaring heritage behind us, we believe we’ve found the perfect formula for you to get the best out of your holiday with us.

Smaller but spacious
A smaller ship doesn’t mean less space; far from it. Each room is comfortably sized, with all that you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. While our vessels are on a more accessible scale, you can have just as much private space.  With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly too. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds – not thousands – of others, giving you a much more authentic experience.

Service with a smile
Each member of the Fred. Olsen team has been carefully selected for their warm and welcoming personalities. The quality of our people, supported by training and development, ensures they will give you a great holiday: in guest feedback our staff are always the most highly-rated aspect of the whole experience.
