Following an overnight sail from Southampton, you’ll enjoy a scenic cruise of the Western Scheldt River, passing countryside scenes of lush-green fields, marshlands and nature reserves en route to Antwerp. Smaller-sized Braemar will sail the Western Scheldt all the way into Antwerp, and then dock within a short distance to the centre of Belgium’s pretty second city to bring the likes of Grote Markt and the mighty Cathedral of Our Lady closer to you. Make the most of your overnight stay here to explore the city [ReadMoreDesk]in depth and you’ll be rewarded with plenty of highlights; the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, the sparkling Diamond District and the neo-Gothic Central Station are all easily discovered on foot. And, of course, you can sample delicious Belgian chocolates along the way. Alternatively, medieval Ghent, with its historical monuments, impressive museums and artisan chocolatiers, is within reach on tour.

Then it’s on to the Netherlands, where you’ll wake up in vibrant Amsterdam with a full day ahead to explore one of Europe’s most captivating capitals. Again, Braemar will dock closer to the centre of this culture-rich city, so an abundance of attractions, from the haunting tales of Anne Frank House to the comprehensive collection of masterpieces on display at Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, await just a short distance from the gangway. Don’t miss the chance to explore Amsterdam’s network of iconic canals and waterways, to marvel at the magnificent historical structures and multi-million-Euro mansions of the UNESCO-listed Canal Ring and visit the wonderful floating flower market. Perhaps see the sights by bicycle, or opt for a romantic canal boat tour in the evening before embarking Braemar for a relaxing journey home.

Real ships
We don’t have boastful megaships. We take immense pride in our fleet of smaller-scaled vessels that retain the style, ambience and understated quality of a country house hotel.  We ensure they remain contemporary too: from winter 2016 to spring 2018 the whole fleet underwent dry dock refits to further enhance the facilities for guests. With the fifth generation Fred. Olsen as Chairman and 170 years of seafaring heritage behind us, we believe we’ve found the perfect formula for you to get the best out of your holiday with us.

Smaller but spacious
A smaller ship doesn’t mean less space; far from it. Each room is comfortably sized, with all that you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. While our vessels are on a more accessible scale, you can have just as much private space.  With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly too. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds – not thousands – of others, giving you a much more authentic experience.

Service with a smile
Each member of the Fred. Olsen team has been carefully selected for their warm and welcoming personalities. The quality of our people, supported by training and development, ensures they will give you a great holiday: in guest feedback our staff are always the most highly-rated aspect of the whole experience.

Refurbished in 2017, elegant Braemar is the shortest of Fred. Olsen's four smaller, friendly ocean-going cruise ships, with dimensions perfect for cruising picturesque, size-restricted rivers and docking in the heart of fascinating towns and cities.

Like the rest of the fleet, Braemar assumes the welcoming feel and intimacy of a country house hotel, and a sense of timeless style and elegance flows through the ship's comfortable bars and lounges, restaurants and spacious accommodation for up to 929 guests.
