You’ll be immersed in highlights from the outset on this journey of discovery, kicking-off with a call at cosmopolitan Copenhagen. [ReadMoreMob]Thanks to Balmoral’s convenient docking location close to the city centre, you won’t be far from the many delights of the Danish capital: the colourful waterfront of Nyhavn, famous Little Mermaid statue and the pretty lakes and gardens of Tivoli Gardens – among others – are all within easy reach. You could opt to visit the impressive Christiansborg and Amalienborg palaces to learn of Copenhagen’s Royal heritage too. Then, after a day in Riga to explore the awe-inspiring Old Town of Latvia’s enchanting capital and see the symbolic Freedom Monument, the excitement is sure to intensify on board your smaller ship as you arrive in St Petersburg for an overnight stay. With two days to delve into St Petersburg’s treasure trove of world-famous landmarks at leisure, you could marvel at Peterhof Palace, the Church of Our Saviour on the Spilled Blood, St. Isaacs Cathedral and much more on an insightful walking tour. For a very special cultural experience, there’ll be an opportunity to see, hear and feel the emotion of an evening at the quintessential Russian ballet too. [ReadMoreDesk]

Returning to Scandinavia, a wonderful two days in Sweden will begin with scenic cruising of the Stockholm Archipelago, passing between a collection of nearly 30,000 rocky islands and islets en route to the capital, Stockholm. Here you could explore the historic Gamla Stan district and witness the changing of the guard at the magnificent Royal Palace; visit a number of interesting museums including the Skansen Open-air Museum and ABBA: The Museum; and even enjoy a drink with a difference at the unique Ice Bar. You’ll then head to UNESCO-listed Visby, a living medieval museum of centuries-old buildings and magnificent churches, on the beautiful island of Gotland, before a day in Fred. Olsen’s homeland brings a fitting finalé to your adventure. In Oslo – the Norwegian capital – you’ll find artistic and aesthetic attractions at every turn; be sure to pay particular attention to Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Polar Ship Museum, the Akershus Fortress and the National Gallery, home of Edvard Munch’s The Scream.

Refurbished in 2017, Balmoral is the largest of Fred. Olsen's smaller, friendly ocean-going cruise ships – with capacity for up to 1,350 guests – yet is still small enough to navigate narrow waterways such as Kiel Canal and bring inspirational sights and experiences closer to you. Like the rest of the fleet, Balmoral retains a warm, welcoming atmosphere and features comfortable accommodation and lounges, stylish restaurants and plenty of open-deck space.

Real ships
We don’t have boastful megaships. We take immense pride in our fleet of smaller-scaled vessels that retain the style, ambience and understated quality of a country house hotel.  We ensure they remain contemporary too: from winter 2016 to spring 2018 the whole fleet underwent dry dock refits to further enhance the facilities for guests. With the fifth generation Fred. Olsen as Chairman and 170 years of seafaring heritage behind us, we believe we’ve found the perfect formula for you to get the best out of your holiday with us.

Smaller but spacious
A smaller ship doesn’t mean less space; far from it. Each room is comfortably sized, with all that you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. While our vessels are on a more accessible scale, you can have just as much private space.  With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly too. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds – not thousands – of others, giving you a much more authentic experience.

Service with a smile
Each member of the Fred. Olsen team has been carefully selected for their warm and welcoming personalities. The quality of our people, supported by training and development, ensures they will give you a great holiday: in guest feedback our staff are always the most highly-rated aspect of the whole experience.
