Savour an unforgettable festive season on this special sailing aboard Balmoral. You’ll celebrate a magical Christmas at sea; visit stunning destinations for an exciting end to 2019; and welcome the arrival of the New Year in style. Combine all this with the soothing winter warmth and highlights of the Canaries, Morocco and Madeira and you’re in for a wonderful holiday.

Spending Christmas with Fred. Olsen will be an experience to remember forever. As you sail south on board Balmoral you’ll enjoy a relaxing Christmas Eve and celebrate the ‘big day’ with fun, festivity and delicious food in the company of friends, family and fellow guests; all while your ship’s friendly crew take care of everything for you. Boxing Day will be memorable too; you’ll have an opportunity to discover the highlights of Morocco’s cultural heart during a call into Casablanca. An authentic way to experience this enchanting city is to visit the impressive Hassan II Mosque and the bustling local souk. Then, for a post-Christmas island-hopping adventure, it’s on to Canaries; three gorgeous destinations are yours to explore, including Tenerife. During your call into Santa Cruz you could take the chance to marvel at Mount Teide, Spain’s magnificent highest peak; uncover the mysterious of the Pyramids of Güímar and the poison gardens; or perhaps simply sunbathe on the golden sands of Playa de Las Americas. Gran Canaria, with its wonderfully warm climate and particularly inviting beaches, is a haven for relaxation. From Las Palmas, the island’s capital, you could head to Maspalomas, where rolling, palm-lined sand dunes are the perfect place to enjoy a few hours of rest and recovery. Alternatively, if you’re feeling adventurous, you could opt to explore the picturesque Agaete Valley or the dense Los Tilos forests. Concluding your time in the Canaries is a call at Santa Cruz de La Palma. Nicknamed the ‘Pretty Island’, La Palma is a wonderland of diverse landscapes that beg for exploration. You can uncover natural wonders galore here; not to be missed are the dramatic peaks of San Antonio Volcanic Park and the island’s ‘enchanted’ laurel forests. After three days in the Canaries, an extended stay in Funchal signs off 2019 in style. You could take the day to wander vibrant botanical gardens or scenic walking trails, before stepping back on board Balmoral for a fantastic evening of celebration. You’ll be in prime position to watch Madeira’s spectacular New Year Fireworks from your ship’s decks and toast to 2020 with a glass of celebratory bubbles in hand. As the New Year begins you’ll sail back to the UK, diverting to the Portuguese mainland en route to uncover the highlights of the capital, Lisbon.

Refurbished in 2017, Balmoral is the largest of Fred. Olsen's smaller, friendly ocean-going cruise ships – with capacity for up to 1,350 guests – yet is still small enough to navigate narrow waterways such as Kiel Canal and bring inspirational sights and experiences closer to you. Like the rest of the fleet, Balmoral retains a warm, welcoming atmosphere and features comfortable accommodation and lounges, stylish restaurants and plenty of open-deck space.

Real ships
We’re not interested in gimmicks like zip wires, climbing walls or celebrity chefs. We don’t have boastful megaships. We take immense pride in our fleet of smaller-scaled vessels that retain the style, ambience and understated quality of a country house hotel.  We ensure they remain contemporary too: from winter 2016 to spring 2018 the whole fleet underwent dry dock refits to further enhance the facilities for guests. With the fifth generation Fred. Olsen as Chairman and 170 years of seafaring heritage behind us, we believe we’ve found the perfect formula for you to get the best out of your holiday with us.

Smaller but spacious
A smaller ship doesn’t mean less space; far from it. Each room is comfortably sized, with all that you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. While our vessels are on a more accessible scale, you can have just as much private space.  With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly too. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds – not thousands – of others, giving you a much more authentic experience.

Service with a smile
Each member of the Fred. Olsen team has been carefully selected for their warm and welcoming personalities. The quality of our people, supported by training and development, ensures they will give you a great holiday: in guest feedback our staff are always the most highly-rated aspect of the whole experience.
