Boxing Day will be memorable too, your chance to relax and enjoy a day of leisurely exploration among the ancient architecture and monuments of Cádiz, before heading to the Canaries as the year draws to a close. You’ll have the chance to sample a taste of the authentic Canarian lifestyle in pretty Puerto del Rosario on the island of Fuerteventura, with its tapas bars and cafés, beautiful surrounding landscapes and inviting golden beaches. Some of the Canaries’ very best beaches also await your discovery in Gran Canaria, with Las Palmas serving as your gateway to the oasis-like dunes of Maspalomas. Picturesque Puerto de Mogán and the charming towns of Teror and Arucas are well worth a visit too. [ReadMoreDesk]

Your Canary Island-hopping adventures continue in Tenerife, the largest island in the archipelago. Santa Cruz is the starting point for discovering Tenerife’s many highlights: perhaps tour to mighty Mount Teide, to revel in the sheer scale and beauty of Spain’s highest peak; or unravel the mysteries of the Pyramids of Güímar. Or you could simply unwind and indulge in the soothing warmth at the beach. The excitement is then sure to build as you head to Madeira, for an unforgettable end to 2020. Arriving in Funchal on New Year’s Eve, you can take the day to explore the unique levada walking trails or resplendent botanical gardens; or perhaps visit the Cabo Girão sea cliff for stunning Atlantic Ocean views. By evening, it’s back on board Black Watch for a fantastic night of celebration, culminating with the chance to watch one of the world’s largest New Year’s firework displays from the decks of your ship. Finally, you’ll kick-off 2021 with the iconic landmarks and traditional flavours of two fascinating cities. Enjoy a day in Lisbon, to delve into the city’s rich maritime history and perhaps enjoy an authentic taste of Portugal with quintessential egg custard tarts; and take the opportunity to tour from the port of Leixoes to Oporto, renowned for its world-famous port wine cellars, mix of baroque and neo-classical architecture, and postcard-perfect riverscapes.

Real ships
We don’t have boastful megaships. We take immense pride in our fleet of smaller-scaled vessels that retain the style, ambience and understated quality of a country house hotel.  We ensure they remain contemporary too: from winter 2016 to spring 2018 the whole fleet underwent dry dock refits to further enhance the facilities for guests. With the fifth generation Fred. Olsen as Chairman and 170 years of seafaring heritage behind us, we believe we’ve found the perfect formula for you to get the best out of your holiday with us.

Smaller but spacious
A smaller ship doesn’t mean less space; far from it. Each room is comfortably sized, with all that you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. While our vessels are on a more accessible scale, you can have just as much private space.  With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly too. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds – not thousands – of others, giving you a much more authentic experience.

Service with a smile
Each member of the Fred. Olsen team has been carefully selected for their warm and welcoming personalities. The quality of our people, supported by training and development, ensures they will give you a great holiday: in guest feedback our staff are always the most highly-rated aspect of the whole experience.

Black Watch is the ultimate home-from-home at sea: spacious with a friendly, familiar feel and providing a traditional cruise experience. Refurbished at the end of 2016, the 804-guest Black Watch features stylish new décor, fittings and furniture, plus the new Black Watch Room restaurant.

What's more, new soft furnishing, smart TVs and mini-bars enhance the accommodation on board, while the cinema has been upgraded too. Despite all these new features, Black Watch still retains her sleek, intimate style and has a welcoming ambience - just like the rest of the Fred. Olsen fleet.
