There’s time in Tokyo, to delight in the Japanese capital’s mix of ultramodern and traditional among its temples and neon-lit landmarks; and be captivated by traditional Geisha dancing. Alternatively, you could opt for a tour to Kamakura to connect with origins of the Samurai. After attraction-packed Nagoya, where highlights include Nagoya Castle and the Shinto Atsuta Temple, it’s on to Kobe. Perhaps tour to historic Osaka from Kobe and don a traditional Kimono as part of a classic Japanese tea ceremony; or to Kyoto, to uncover stunning Buddhist temples, imperial palaces and Shinto shrines, and encounter famous Geishas once again. Hiroshima and Nagasaki are sure to invoke thoughts of devastation caused by the United States’ infamous nuclear attacks here, though both cities offer much more than memories of World War Two. Awe-inspiring temples, pagodas and shrines, including Hiroshima’s UNESCO-listed Itsukushima Shrine, fragrant Oriental gardens and views of picturesque Mount Inasa – overlooking Nagasaki – also await you.
