Sail from Barbados to Brazil and experience an exhilarating exploration of the Amazon, capturing the diversity and unique beauty of this astonishing part of the world. Explore dense jungle and rainforest; encounter native fauna and flora; witness remarkable natural phenomena; and much more, all on one simply unforgettable cruise.
Before your Amazon adventure begins you’ll have time in the Caribbean to unwind in the sunshine and uncover an array of stunning highlights. Bridgetown – where Braemar will be waiting for you to board – is your gateway to Barbados’ white-sand beaches, beautiful gardens and impressive natural wonders; while a stop in St George’s could be spent exploring Grenada's volcanic Grand Etang National Park. Then it’s on to your first Brazilian call, Belém. The capital of Pará state is home to many attractions, including a selection of fine museums and historic buildings, a fantastic market and even a boating lake. For authentic Amazonian experiences you could visit the Mangal das Garças ecological park; journey to the river island of Marajó; or take a tour to spot native birds such as parrots and ibis. Along the Amazon River, Santarém awaits you next. As well as the gorgeous beaches of Alter do Chao, bustling Mercado Market and Museu de Santarém, the unique ‘Meeting of the Waters’ is not to be missed. Here, the different coloured waters of the Tapajós and Amazon rivers flow side-by-side without mixing – a sight that has to be seen to be believed. [ReadMore]

Parintins, host of the Boi Bumba Festival – Brazil’s second largest festival, after the Rio Carnival – is next on your itinerary. Although the city’s annual festival actually takes place in June, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the carnival atmosphere during a special, private performance of the Boi Bumba show. Take your seat and enjoy a celebration of colour, dance and music which is sure to have your toes tapping – a wonderful occasion to remember forever. Alternatively you could take the day to see the impressive cathedral, visit the colourful floating market and much more before sailing on to Manaus for the ultimate exploration. The wonders and wildlife of the Amazon Rainforest and a host of incredible experiences await you during your three day stay in the Amazonas State’s proud capital. You could take a boat tour into the flooded forest after dark in search of elusive Caiman; cruise the Rio Negro and seek-out endemic pink dolphins; join a jungle trek to see stunning flora up-close; or even meet an indigenous Amazon tribe. For a fitting finale to your adventure, take the chance to spend an evening in a stilted lodge nestled in the rainforest – a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Refurbished in 2017, elegant Braemar is the shortest of Fred. Olsen's four smaller, friendly ocean-going cruise ships, with dimensions perfect for cruising picturesque, size-restricted rivers and docking in the heart of fascinating towns and cities.

Like the rest of the fleet, Braemar assumes the welcoming feel and intimacy of a country house hotel, and a sense of timeless style and elegance flows through the ship's comfortable bars and lounges, restaurants and spacious accommodation for up to 929 guests.

Real ships
We don’t have boastful megaships. We take immense pride in our fleet of smaller-scaled vessels that retain the style, ambience and understated quality of a country house hotel.  We ensure they remain contemporary too: from winter 2016 to spring 2018 the whole fleet underwent dry dock refits to further enhance the facilities for guests. With the fifth generation Fred. Olsen as Chairman and 170 years of seafaring heritage behind us, we believe we’ve found the perfect formula for you to get the best out of your holiday with us.

Smaller but spacious
A smaller ship doesn’t mean less space; far from it. Each room is comfortably sized, with all that you’ll need to enjoy your holiday. In fact, our rooms are comparable to those on some of the mammoth cruise ships. While our vessels are on a more accessible scale, you can have just as much private space.  With fewer people on board it’s easy to find a quiet spot to relax in peace with a drink or a good book. There’s room to stretch out by the pool and you can get ashore more quickly too. And when you’re ashore, you’re seeing the best of each port of call with hundreds – not thousands – of others, giving you a much more authentic experience.

Service with a smile
Each member of the Fred. Olsen team has been carefully selected for their warm and welcoming personalities. The quality of our people, supported by training and development, ensures they will give you a great holiday: in guest feedback our staff are always the most highly-rated aspect of the whole experience.
