It’s easy to succumb to the seasonal gloom as the trees lose their leaves and the rain falls from the grey skies above; but there’s no need to when you can escape to sunnier climes and discover breathtaking beaches, fascinating cultures and stunning scenery on our fantastic Warmer Cruises.

You can cruise to beautiful islands in the Atlantic, including popular holiday spots in the Canaries and Cape Verde; experience the best of the Caribbean; or even venture into engrossing cities in the Mediterranean and Northern Africa. In fact there are so many incredible destinations to discover that it might be hard to decide where to visit!
With this in mind we have picked out our Top Five Winter Warmers to help make your decision just a little bit easier…

Santa Cruz de Tenerife – Canary Islands
Tenerife is the perfect place to escape to for some soothing winter warmth. In December and January the mercury hovers around the 17°C mark, so most of the time it feels like a pleasant late-spring day in the UK. Santa Cruz – the capital of the Canary Islands – is the gateway to the island’s abundance of attractions, including gorgeous beaches such as Playa de Las Teresitas and magnificent Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak. You could even go in search of various whale and dolphin species, which are often spotted off the coast of Tenerife all year-round; or tour to the vibrant poison gardens of the Pyramids of Guimar.

Experience it with Fred. Olsen: Visit Tenerife on our very special Canaries Christmas and New Year cruise aboard Balmoral, which includes an unforgettable call into Santa Cruz on New Year’s Eve. You’ll also take in Gran Canaria, La Gomera, Fuerteventura and the picturesque Portuguese island of Madeira.

Mindelo, São Vicente – Cape Verde Islands
The Canaries aren’t the only Atlantic islands which should feature high on your winter wish list. Cape Verde’s lush-green islands are well worth a visit too, in particular São Vicente – the ‘cultural island’. The port city of Mindelo is an undoubted highlight here, with its blend of Portuguese charm and Brazilian style. Wander the pretty cobblestone streets and you’ll discover charming colonial architecture – highlights include Torre de Belém and the Nossa Senhora da Luz Church. Alternatively you could join a fantastic Jeep Safari and explore the island’s barren volcanic valleys and vistas. The weather should be ideal, as winter temperatures average around 25°C.

Experience it with Fred. Olsen: Join Boudicca for our 77-night discovery of South America, which takes in the fascinating island of Mindelo before journeying across the Atlantic to Brazil, Argentina and Peru.

Road Town, Tortola – Caribbean
To feel a world away from winter at home there’s no better place to cruise to than Tortola, our guests’ highest rated Caribbean destination. Here you can enjoy hour after hour of glorious sunshine, even in December and January when the temperature rarely drops below 25°C. Unwind on the sugar-white sands of Cane Garden Bay, located just a short distance from Road Town; immerse yourself in the bright colours and sweet scents of the J.R O’Neal Botanic Gardens; or perhaps chill out with glass of authentic Caribbean rum at the legendary Pussers Bar – whatever you choose to do, you’re sure to forget about the wet winter weather you’ve left behind back home!

Experience it with Fred. Olsen: Meet Braemar in Barbados and set sail on a magical Caribbean Christmas and New Year’s cruise. Not only will you get to tick Antigua, St. Lucia, Dominica, St. Maarten and many more idyllic Caribbean islands off your ‘must-visit’ list; you’ll also spend New Year’s Eve in Road Town.

Kusadasi (for Ephesus), Turkey – Mediterranean
Striking powder-sand beaches, palm-lined boulevards, crystal-clear waters and superb restaurants: this lively Turkish resort town has it all! Kusadasi is a popular holiday destination and is particularly busy during the summer season; but on our Islands of the Aegean cruise you can visit in late September when the crowds have died down and the temperatures peak between 20°C and 25°C – perfect for making the most of what’s on offer.

Kusadasi is also the gateway to ancient city of Ephesus, where architectural and archaeological marvels such as the ruins of the Library of Celsus and the Temple of Hadrian await discovery.

Experience it with Fred. Olsen: The 28-night Islands of the Aegean cruise departs from Southampton on 11th September 2017 and visits a number of incredible destinations including Kusadasi, Piraeus (for Athens), Istanbul, Limassol, Santorini and much more.

Casablanca, Morocco – Northern Africa
Many people will know of this fascinating Moroccan gem because of the iconic film of the same name; however there’s much more to visiting Casablanca than simply following in the footsteps of Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman at the world’s famous Rick’s Café. The impressive Hassan II Mosque, the historic Old Medina and the Mahkama du Pacha are all not to be missed; and just a short distance from the city centre you’ll find Ain Diab beach, where you can enjoy the sunshine on the pale sands or grab a drink at one of the friendly bars. It will still be warm here even in October and November, with temperatures averaging around 20°C.

Experience it with Fred. Olsen: Join our Sun, Souks & Siestas cruise in November 2017 for the chance to explore enchanting cities including Casablanca, Agadir, Porto Santo and Funchal aboard Black Watch.

Fred. Olsen cruises are acessible from ports all over the UK, with cruises from Scotland, Newcastle, Southampton and many more.
