We shall also visit the famous Rijksmuseum.

We travel by coach to the windmill village Zaanse Schans – a name deriving from the defending wall (schans) which was erected at the end of the 16th century for the war against the Spaniards. Although the wall has since disappeared, the name was revived in 1950, when it became the location for a collection of houses and small businesses from the 17th and 18th centuries.

For those who have visited Amsterdam before or just prefer to do their own thing, this tour is perfect.

What was life like in the Viking ages? Our visit to the Viking Exhibition at the Museum of National Antiquities will show us about their lives and travels.

This tour covers the city districts of Södermalm, Gamla Stan, Norrmalm, Östermalm, and Djurgården – each having its own special character.

Our tour will begin with a short drive to Fjällgatan, for a splendid panoramic view of the city, before continuing through the city centre to the neighbouring island of Djurgården – regarded as Stockholm’s outdoor recreation centre.

We leave the pier to begin our tour, which will let us experience the world’s first permanent ice bar.

Nature and careful planning have combined to make Stockholm one of the world’s most attractive capitals. Water plays an important part in city life, and no fewer than 50 bridges of every shape and size link Stockholm’s 14 islands.

From the pier, our tour commences with a drive up to Fjällgatan, for a splendid panoramic view of the city and the inner harbour. We then descend to cross to the island of Gamla Stan, where the enchanting, medieval Old Town is located.

After circling Tallinn’s medieval city wall, with its fairy tale turrets, we shall stop near the foot of the Kiek in de Kök Tower (Cannon Tower) for a panoramic view of the Upper Town, with its churches and towers.

Departing from the harbour, we travel through Tallinn’s cultural heart towards Toompea (Cathedral Hill). We shall stop at the foot of the medieval tower named Pikk (or Tall) Hermann, which stands guard over the National Parliament in this, Estonia's capital.

More than 40 cities have been designated European Capitals of Culture so far, from Stockholm to Genoa, Athens to Glasgow, and Krakow to Porto. A city is not chosen as a European Capital of Culture solely for what it is, but mainly for what exceptional plans it has for the coming year.

Our wildlife adventure begins in the Viru Bog – an approximate three kilometre square area of peat bog, formed over a period of 10,000 years from decaying moss. We will walk along the boardwalk, built over the bog to provide a good view of this strange landscape of lichens and conifers.

We leave the harbour and drive through the cultural centre of Tallinn, viewing some of the highlights of Estonian architecture.

Peterhof was conceived by Peter the Great to rival Versailles in splendour. Indeed, several hours could be spent enjoying the extravaganza of the dazzling fountain display.

The Catherine Palace ranks high on the list of the world’s most beautiful buildings. Our tour will combine this Palace with the Cathedrals of St Peter & St Paul, and St Isaacs.

Our first visit on this tour will be to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan. The Kazan Cathedral is centrally located on the Nevsky Prospekt and attracts the attention of visitors with its stately aspect, elegantly proportioned dome and impressive colonnades.

Nothing can really adequately prepare us for what we may see and hear on this tour - it is best to bring along an open mind and heart, as well as a sense of curiosity.

A visit to St Petersburg is always a rewarding and unforgettable experience. By European standards it is a young city – in 2003, St Petersburg celebrated the 300th anniversary of its foundation – yet wherever we look there are reminders of an eventful history.

This evening of ballet is an opportunity to experience an exciting performance at one of the leading centres of art. Dancers from one of the St Petersburg companies are invited to perform on stage for our special enjoyment.

This is our opportunity to visit St Petersburg’s most famous museum, the Hermitage – Russia’s largest collection of art, with over 2.8 million works, and one of the most prestigious museums in the world.

This tour takes us to Catherine Palace and Park.

This really is an unmissable tour – not least because it gives us the unique opportunity to enjoy one of the most well known museums in the world, away from the crowds.

Following a journey of approximately one-hour we arrive in Gdansk – a city which suffered greatly during World War II but now restored to its full splendour. The city’s 1,000 years of history have left a collection of buildings and monuments designed in Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles.

This tour will not only give us the chance to see the city of Gdansk, but also the Museum dedicated to the Solidarity movement founded there.

Venture into the Polish countryside to see the Teutonic Knights’ Castle of Malbork, and explore its fascinating history. Journey time from Gdynia is approximately 90 minutes. We will drive through a colourful landscape, passing small villages where time seems to have stood still.

This tour is designed for those passengers who would like time to explore the Old Town of Gdansk independently. Departing from the pier in Gdynia, we will drive through the small town of Oliwa, passing the Abbot’s Palace and Gardens and the beautiful Oliwa Cathedral.

Close to the Minster is the train station, from where we will enjoy a ride on the historic Molli narrow gauge steam train.
