We travel by coach to the windmill village Zaanse Schans – a name deriving from the defending wall (schans) which was erected at the end of the 16th century for the war against the Spaniards. Although the wall has since disappeared, the name was revived in 1950, when it became the location for a collection of houses and small businesses from the 17th and 18th centuries.

For those who have visited Amsterdam before or just prefer to do their own thing, this tour is perfect.

This tour to Brussels will combine a panoramic drive through the city as well as a guided city walk.

After a drive of approximately one-hour through the Flemish countryside, we arrive at the town of Waterloo for our visit to the Wellington Museum.

We will walk to Antwerp’s market place for a guided walking tour. We then continue our walk, either choosing to visit the Christmas Market independently, or returning with the guide back to our ship.

We depart our ship for the approximate one-hour drive to Ghent – today the third largest city in Belgium, but once the biggest town in Western Europe due to the growth of the cloth trade.

This excursion is ideal for those passengers wishing to visit Bruges and have free time to explore this exquisitely preserved medieval town.

Upon our arrival we will commence a walking tour of the centre of Ghent. We will then enjoy some free time around the Cathedral – where the Christmas Market is located.

This tour will give us the chance to see Brussels at this special time of year and the opportunity for shopping independently at the Christmas Market or to go sightseeing.

At Brussels Central Station we disembark our coach and commence a guided city walk. We proceed through the Old Town area – around the Grand Place with its Baroque guild houses and Town Hall.

Bruges is an exquisitely preserved medieval town whose charm will capture us immediately. Smaller and more contained than many other old Flemish cities, Bruges gives the impression that we have stepped back in time.

We travel along this famous coast with its wild and windswept sandy beaches and see where pleasure crafts, lifeboats, trawlers and a host of other small crafts carried out their heroic rescue.

Ypres was one of the great Flemish cloth towns of the Middle Ages. Occupied by the German army for one night at the beginning of the Great War, it fell under control of the Allied Forces on 14th October 1914.

Today, we depart from our ship to visit the Battle of Dunkirk Museum, housed in Bastion 32 to the west of Dunkirk beach. We shall travel via the 1940 Memorial on the Allied Pier for a short photo stop.

Driving from our ship to Lille we will embark on a panoramic tour of the city, seeing the Fine Arts Museum, the Old Paris Gate and the Town Hall.
