Departing the quayside, we drive by La Laguna, the second most important town of Tenerife, located in the centre of Aguere Valley and just a few kilometres from the capital.

The volcanic scenery of Tenerife is both enchanting and inspiring, and has been the setting of famous movies such as Planet of the Apes and One Million Years Before. Santa Cruz is the lively cosmopolitan capital of this, the largest of the Canary Islands. Throughout the city there is a variety of architectural and historical interests to suit all tastes.

Departing the harbour of Santa Cruz, we pass by the university town of La Laguna and cross to one of the finest wine-growing areas on the island to reach Tacoronte and then El Sauzal on the western coast.

Garachico is a picturesque village resort on the northern coast of Tenerife, and was once the island’s main port. In 1706, the harbour was partially blocked by lava in a volcanic flow; we can observe the remains of the former town, its typical architecture and the volcanic siphons formed by lava on the sea.

For those of us who enjoy a spot of retail therapy, this tour is perfect. Departing the quayside, a transfer of approximately 30 minutes will take us to Limegrove – the Caribbean’s newest luxury lifestyle centre.

Shortly after leaving Bridgetown Harbour, we pass by Pelican Village – a small arts and crafts centre which houses a number of shops offering locally made gifts and souvenirs. Next we drive along Broad Street, the main shopping area of Bridgetown, followed by Heroes Square (formerly Trafalgar Square).

Harrison’s Cave is a magnificent natural phenomenon, quite in a class of its own. Formed from a particularly beautiful type of crystallised limestone, this stunning cavern is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular natural attractions in the entire Caribbean.

Land iguanas, lava lizards and colonies of sea lions can be observed. Plaza Island - This small island is full of fascinating wildlife, both at seaside and along the cliffs. We may have the opportunity to view sea lions, land iguanas, swallow-tailed gulls and opuntia cacti. Bartolome Island - The trail is a fairly steep climb on wooden steps to the summit and is worth the effort, as there is a spectacular view of the Galapagos scenery from above. Interesting lava formations and tuff cones can also be observed.

DAY 4 - We will leave our hotel and will drive to Alausi where we will board the train going to the Devil’s Nose Pass. This route will show us breathtaking scenery of the Andes, such as the Palmira desert and finally, the Devil’s Nose and the amazing engineering work that was done to take the train across the hills and creeks to communicate the Andes with the Coastal Region. The train received its name from a famous wall of rock with 45-degree decline, called the Devil’s Nose, which is part of the train excursion. Switchbacks are used to help the train make it up steep slopes. A switchback is a trail which zigzags up a steep ridge instead of going straight up.

On this excursion we can enjoy a visit to one of Peru’s largest private collections, amassed over a lifetime by the late diplomat Miguel Mujica Gallo.

Founded in 1926 in a renovated 1707 mansion, the Larco Herrera Museum contains the biggest private collection of pre-Columbian art that exists in the world and consists of about 45,000 pieces, mainly pottery, that were excavated by Peruvian archaeologist Rafael Larco Hoyle.
